To add to that as I am in the same boat, I wonder if it will have the same bump on its right in the way the 11" display has.
I have the G3X, G5, Garmin audio panel, backup Garmin com (only) in my panel. It shoud fit easily.
I had been told that the overall is 1/8" larger which makes it 1/16" on each side. Can you confirm it is is actually 1/8" on each side and a total of 1/4" overall side to side?
The Axis installation manual says, "the bezel of the GDU 116 is 1/8" larger than a GDU46X on each side."
In this post, G3Xpert says the bezel is .075" wider on each side.
It could be interpreted to that the opening is the same, but you need more clearance for the bezel itself on the panel surface.
Panel builder is recommending a HSDB from the GTX-45R to the GTN Xi and not to the GDU' since the GTN has 4 HSDB's. Hopefully g3xpert can confirm.
I don't think it's a matter of interpretation. The panel cutout and the bolt pattern of the the Axis and the G3X are identical. The bezel of the Axis is most certainly wider than that of the G3X.
What's unclear is whether the Axis bezel is 1/8" larger on each side or .075" larger on each side. The manual states the bezel is 1/8" wider on each side:

Pretty sure g3expert was referring to the 11" displays gdu 116. It's .15 wider overall, .075" on each side. I can confirm this as had a new panel cut to move it over from my G5 for clearance. I am not referring to the GDU 46x, I cannot comment on that unit.

As Dmattmul pasted above, the drawings from the G3X Installation manual & the Axis installation manual support that the GDU 116 bezel is .15" wider overall than that of the GDU 460. In other words, the Axis manual is incorrect in stating that the GDU 116 bezel is 1/8" wider on each side.
Ya, But the pilot side insert contained a g3x and g5 butted up to each other. I had the left insert recut to move the g3x mounting holes to the right a bit so the additional 0.075 on the left side of the GDU 116 wouldn't overlap with the G5. Similar issue I guess to your two G3X units butted up against each other.
