B&C BCS206 starter on IO-390 with Avstar fuel servo

BCS206 starter will not fit the IO-390 with the avstar fuel servo as the throttle body bolt as indexed hits the back of the starter. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Just to be clear, it isn’t the throttle linkage - it’s the roll pin index to the idle stop. There isn’t enough throw. The throttle can be indexed to this bolt easily by lengthening the rod end bearing.

I’m assuming nobody has successfully installed this starter yet?

Ideas?

I wonder whether the snorkel works with this starter as well. Might take a bit of fiberglass work.

I will look at that next. I just find it hard to believe I am the first one to install in this configuration? I can’t find anyone else who documented any issues. So either it is me or just lucky to be the first

Not a 390 but I just went through the same issue with my IO360 with a Precision fuel servo. Had to buy a Skytech 149-12 LS starter because it was short enough and small enough in diameter to clear the air inlet and the mixture arm (similar location to your throttle arm) on the servo. The B&C and the high torque Skytech were too long.

Hi Mark did you find a fix as i have same problem

My A&P and I got the B&C installed in my RV-8 (IO-360) by modifying the snorkel and using an angled AVStar arm that doesn't contact the starter body. It's been working great. See this thread:
