Garmin Game Changer Coming July 8, 2026!

We can see two knobs, a usb-c port(?), and six buttons - three of which we can read: Direct to, Menu, and Back.

I also see a light photosensor (probably) between the menu and back buttons, so the screen can auto-dim or respond to ambient light levels.
 
I’ll upgrade IF:
-fits same hole
-no more than MINOR wiring
-100% integration with my current GDU 460
-less than about $6.5K
If so, my Rocket’s old single front display becomes my new back seat display.
If not, I’m drooling over the NIB GDU’s at fire sale prices.

I would not get too excited about that yet. Remember that the 430/530s held their value for years after the 650/750 was released. Its a free market so who knows but it is not guaranteed that folks will take a huge loss on newish GDU's.

It is an interesting conundrum. On the used airplane market, "The latest thing" carries a lot of weight with upper end buyers. So if you're gonna flip your RV-whatever, the new thing is probably very attractive. If you're a build and hold guy or gal, the G3X and "the new thing" could both be obsolete when the time comes to sell.
 
My money is on a similar G3X Touch replacement with a built-in WAAS GPS (similar to what Dynon just released). I would not bank on built-in Nav as that would cannibalize the GTN line. I can see Garmin releasing a "G3X Touch replacement" but much higher price with built-in GPS or even having multiple options like the GPS series that has multiple options like the GPS 175, GNC 355, GNX 375.... Maybe they are making these with larger screen and adding Engine Monitor to them. So, for those of us who are waiting for a drop in replacement of the G3X Touch (simply a PFD or MFD), personally I don't see Garmin doing that. I think they do it but it's going to cost WAY more because it will have some additional functionality.

Of course, all of this is my own wish list in my head but it sure is fun to guess what's in the box ;) 😂

On the Garmin website the Experimental version isn't available with the Internal IFR GPS, COMM, NAV and Audio Panel. So only the TSO version has those options?

IFR Navigation has always been TSO . It makes sense that the options with IFR capabilities are only TSO and way more expensive.

Yes I know that, but experimental version doesn't even have the option for the COMM and Audio Panel on the larger screen? So if someone would want the "all in one" AXIS the TSO version is the only choice. I'm not in the market at this point but just wanted to better understand.

It seems that the path to an experimental Axis with an integrated COMM and Audio Panel is to get the basic unit and buy a GTR205Xr, which includes a 2 place intercom. Not exactly an audio panel, but if you are running a single Comm, probably all you need.
 
Correct - since the integrated units with COM/NAV/Audio Panel options are also fully certified GPS IFR Navigators, the complete units must carry a TSO. Experimental 'Base' AXIS flight displays can still be paired with remote mounted avionics used today to gain this functionality without moving to the full integrated options.
 
On the RV-12 the upper outboard corners of the G3X Touch screens had to be filed down a bit to clear the canopy bow on my build. I have heard this is a common problem with G3X Touch LRU's in the RV-12. I'm wondering if this is even possible with the Axis screens being a bit wider.
 
This Axis (kinda negative sounding note here for older people...) is nothing short of fantastic, it'll sure go along my 40K+ paintjob, on top of my finished pseudo super quick-built order from Vans all built by some 3rd party using pre-made harnesses and so on...
I'll then bring that revolutionary beauty to Air Vulture and proudly tell all groupies and punter-admirers that I financed it all by myself, can't wait!

Oh, wait a minute, I better wait for that 360° vision screen where the pilot will be centrally placed, no controls, no view on the outside world but who cares, and ravish mesmerized by acres of glass. What a dream 😍

Sure love homebuilding and the path it has taken, that is soo exciting 😶‍🌫️

Check out Brad's comment over on the RV-12 specific AXIS thread. He warns that the AXIS cannot be filed down like the Touch. I think most of the 12's have this issue on one side or both.
