It is crimped. I’ve had the rubber pieces off of several different cables, and installed and removed several. Never had one come apart. Took one apart once to see how it goes together. (Ended up in trash)
As for crimping, if you had the proper die to crimp the thin tubing without damaging it, maybe. Personally I stand behind changing it before further flight. Control cables and fuel systems are not a place to take chances.
Call ACS or McFarlane. They will give you a professional opinion. Guarantee they will tell you the same thing.
Less than an hour job, and $100 for off the shelf cables if thats what you have. Not a big deal to change.
