A curved-tip hemostat was the only thing that worked for me to clamp the Adel clamps so you can get washers and nuts on. You have to precisely position the Adel clamps on the polyethylene sleeves before "clamping the clamp," because once you tighten an Adel clamp around the polyethylene sleeve, the Adel clamp doesn't want to budge relative to the sleeve. Best not to tighten down any of the MS21042-3 nuts more than a couple of turns before you have everything where you want it, because that way you might be able to move the sleeves around a little bit.
Also, p. 33-11 in the RV-14 KAI shows the bolt heads are inboard. Given that we're supposed to turn the nut, not the bolt, and the fact that I can't see a way to get a torque wrench on a MS21042-3 nut in the forward corner of the cover around the control column without a custom extension, I installed the forward bolts with the bolt heads outboard, i.e., with the nuts inboard. A stubby 3/8" wrench is required to hold the bolt head.
By the way, Spruce sells the bar with the V-shaped slit as a Thrust Aviation Adel Clamp Screw Holder. The part number is TAT007. You can probably make your own. Theirs is made from 0.018" stainless steel, which makes me wonder how bendy it is.

RE: Vans Electric Fuel Primer...

I have one on my -4 and love it. Yes, you turn boost pump on, hold the primer button about 3-5 seconds and fire it up. Those who prime their carb using the accelerator pump and throttle lever are just a misfire away from burning up their plane (no offense folks). As 45 year AP/IA, I have repaired my share of burnt up airboxes, cowlings and engines. No Bueno. On my -4, the solenoid is mounted on the firewall, and I ran a copper tube (with and expansion loop) to a T fitting and used the usual plumbing to 3 of the 4 cylinders. The 4th has manifold pressure tap. I've attached a couple pics. The primer button is on the panel just forward of the throttle. hard to see in the pic, but the solenoid is a small canister shape and I have it held in place with 2 large grey adel clamps just behind the rear cylinder on the firewall. The feed comes from the top of the gascolator. I have more detailed pics, but not handy.

That's how I did it, and yes I did level the fuselage (taildragger). I seem to recall that I rolled the airplane out of the way after dropping plumb lines for the wing LE and axle positions, makes it easier to connect the dots on the floor! I also marked the LE position from the same rib station on both wings, to keep things symmetrical.

I found if you keep everything bone stock, it all fits together very nicely, and you get full-sized plans included too, which really helped with the firewall penetration holes.

Rudder cable bushings
I have not riveted the baggage floor as in Canada we need a pre-closure inspection preformed. I have moved on to the next steps and got to the point of installing the rudder cables and the snap bushings. It was a lot easier to undo all the clecos and remove the floor than to twist my arm thru...

Vans Electric Fuel Primer...
I'm looking for pics and info on how you installed the Vans electric primer kit. I'm installing it on a Carburated O-360. I'd like to see how/where you mounted the the electronic valve and how you routed the small brass fuel tube. When I ordered the kit, I thought it consisted of a small...

Weighing procedure & measuring the wheel axle positions? (W&B)
There are quite a few posts on VAF about weighing the aircraft and the importance of leveling the fuselage to get accurate readings on the scales. I couldn't however find any discussion about how to best measure the position of each of the wheels relative to the datum. (This is for an -A...

Firewall forward kit?
I’m getting close so I looked on Vans’ site under the “order a kit” section. Turns out there is no firewall forward kit. So how do I proceed?

Control Column
Hello, Today I was testing the fit of the Control Stick Bases to the Control Column and found a problem. The first indication was a difference in the distance between the right and left VA-146 bearings of .020”. Too much to account for powder coat roughness. Then I inserted an AN4-37A and...
