Mothership: New RV-15 Wing Video
"With the new wings completed, the real test was to see how the RV-15 flew with them. Head engineer Rian Johnson took the RV-15 aloft recently to see how it flies with the new wing and, especially, to assess changes in the flaps and flap-actuating mechanism. The goals were to have unmatched low-speed handling and low flap-handle forces—both were more than met.
Watch to the end to see Van himself listening to the debrief."

More RE: Alternator field wire question
When the breaker switch is closed it closes the alt contactor and would also provide 12V to the VR in the alternator. If the OVM detects a voltage over 16V the OVM shorts the field wire causing the breaker switch to open thus disconnecting the B-lead from the Master contactor. For some reason the wire connected between the alt contactor to the alternator wasn’t exciting the VR. So I moved the field wire connection between the contactor and alternator to the new location shown in red.

Yes, I too was surprised it was not number 2, although in the reaming process it ran a close second in terms of the amount of crud removed and the force required to push the valve in. Hey, at least at 800 Hrs., seems to appear much earlier for many, so I considered myself lucky. FYI, here's the graph of the worst morning sickness.

I've built two per plans, and it worked like it should with the overlaying, holder, and pop rivets. I see what you mean, but I didn't put that much thought and did what the plans said. Hopefully this helps.

copy - thanks for the heads up. I’ll make a note of it. The shop here didn’t want to touch those gears - we’ve left them in the case (he said the case overhaul guy gets upset if he damages something trying to get that set screw out, so he leaves it for them).

Relationship between CHT, ICP, OAT
Hello, I have a cold climate (AK) aitplane with a 9:1 lyc. io-360 & lightspeed ignition, 570 & 3 years SNEW. I typically run it between 65 and 75% at 100F-150F ROP which results in ~340/340/320/320 CHT. The surface OAT is rarely over 60F, so at cruise I’m usually 40F to -10F OAT. It...

Alternator field wire question
While I was flying it appeared I lost my alternator and with a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery it didn’t last long until I lost my entire panel. I have my field wire connected to the control terminal on a contactor so I can physically disconnect the B-lead from the system if an over voltage...

A productive day in the hangar
Good day... managed to get brightener through epoxy primer. The fillet material around the canopy wasn't on properly prepared aluminum so I removed it prior to today's steps. All in all I'm stoked with the progress.

Baggage access covers
Things you learn on your first build… I Installed the AirWard baggage access covers over the steps. The covers are well made and the kit is complete, I recommend. I learned the access covers DO NOT allow you to remove the bolt in the step. The bolt is not located where it will come out through...

Slightly fluctuating EGT and lagging CHT on startup on cylinder 2
Hello, I have a very subtle problem that I noticed the other day when I was in normalize mode at startup. It looks like EGT on #2 fluctuates a little and CHT lags a bit behind the rest of the cylinders. Can't feel much seat of the pants but if my tip up prop is resting slightly open on its...

RV 14 Elevator close out tab
9-04 Step one calls for the top skin to be bent 1/64" from the bend line. Then step two calls for the lower skin to be bent 1/32" from the bend line. This seems backwards as when assembled the top skin goes over the top of the bottom skin tab.

Overhauling an IO360-C1E6 for a RV14
This thread will chronicle my misguided journey in the overhaul of an IO360-C1E6 into my RV14 (taildragger). I will be making updates here as links to my blog for more detail. Post #1 goes into the reasons i chose to go for an overhauled IO360, as opposed to a new IO390 (cost, foreign currency...
