A little out of the loop, as I’m in recurrent. Brain only capable of so many MHz. If you’ve been trying to reach me, that’s why I’m more unreachable than usual. Hope you had a nice weekend and Father’s Day.

This is the "slightly smarter but still pretty dumb" mod I made to my #3 baffle. It's just some aluminum spacers that move the whole thing rearwards, creating a slot that allows air to move down past the fin-less area. I can't remember what thickness the material is, but it's somewhere between 0.063" and 0.090". I had to slightly tweak the various mounting holes so the baffle could be attached properly. This was an easy mod, but it's really inelegant, and I would be happier with a nice DanH-style duct... but in reality it works fine, my #3 CHTs are great.

Attaching elevators to Horizontal Stabilizer pp11-02/3
On page 11-02,m it shows a distance 0f 13/16. At this distance, the elevators rub against the H Stab. So, I backed out the rod ends a few turns, which also ensured that "the minimum distance from the Horizontal Stabilizer Rear Spar web to the Elevator Torque Tube is 1 5/8". Then I noticed...

A Quick Trip to Vegas…..
I had to run down to a little airpark just west/southwest of Las Vegas to do a quick aircraft inspection today. I left home in the Rocket at 0615, landed there at 0745. We got started immediately, and it IMMEDIATELY became hotter than heck in that tin hangar with no breeze. Nevertheless, an hour...

Possible crankcase leak and mystery hole - IO-540
My BPE IO-540 has been performing really well for 18 months now, but on a recent inspection I noticed some black sooty/coke like material on the engine block just behind the #5 cylinder. The material was not oily, and rubbed off easily with a bit of diluted iso-propyl alcohol on a rag. I can't...
