Out at 52F for a bit Wed, and parked on my taxiway to work the iPad and answer an email or three. Saw this 185 taxiing out and decided to get the iPhone over near a sign for a pic. Turned out pretty good.
Spring has arrived in N.TX (and the pollen).
Wishing you and yours a happy, safe and RV-filled weekend.

A “Gotcha” on the ailerons….Page 34-10, attachment of the A-15008-1 stainless tubes. They are not end for end symmetrical. There is an inboard end and an outboard end. If attached flipped, the six leading edge holes won’t quite line up with the skin, but they are close enough that a person might put a lot of time and effort into trying to make it fit.
Another note is that the nose ribs require serious fluting into order to bring holes into alignment with skin. I needed two deep flutes on the top two tabs for alignment.

Here's the hardware I've been working with.
It's got a Pi Pico 2 W (RP2350) microcontroller, ADXL345 accelerometer, DS3231 real time clock, TSSP77038 IR receiver, IR333-A IR Led, and a 1 gigabyte SD card. I've almost got the firmware and app to a point where it's ready to mount to the plane and log some accelerometer data. The problem is, there's no way I'm bolting hardware like this to an airplane engine. It needs to be repackaged.
I'm sure I'll hate myself later for making this so tight and not leaving much room to run wires. But here's what my current proposed packaging looks like.

This is what happens when the internal timing slips on a mag with less than 200 hours. BTW Slick covered it under warranty and sent me a new mag

What's your most interesting story of mystery bumps, thumps or bangs?
Theres another thread going right now where the poster is trying to diagnose a mystery thud sound that he's experiencing. I didn't want hijack his thread, or minimize his issue, but it occurred to me that it might be fun and maybe even educational for folks to throw out an anecdote or two of...

RV-15 Aileron Observations
First, let me say this is a wonderful kit. I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I can only imagine that if they sold a version where the parts are prepped and primed, all we'd have to do is the fun part. A couple of observations while building the ailerons. YMMV. 1. Cleco together both the left...

DIY dynamic prop balancer?
Does anybody know of any build it yourself dynamic prop balancers? Seems like it could be a fun project with some interesting math involved. I'm contemplating trying to design one, but am curious if anyone else has attempted this before.

Large RPM drop during mag test
Hello all, I have an RV-6A with an O-360-A1A and two Slick magnetos that has been running very well for the past few years. During run-up mag checks, I typically see a 70–90 RPM drop when one magneto is switched off. This past weekend, however, I noticed a large RPM drop (~200 RPM) with...
