Why No Plenum?
…MacCool
At some point, either the OB or PO decided to replace the baffling in my airplane with an enclosed plenum and carbon fiber cover. I'm no airplane builder but I see baffle problems or questions come up here on VAF fairly often. A plenum seems like a pretty robust and obvious solution, yet it doesn't seem to be utilized much. Just curious...why not?

Main wing rivet callouts for W-1012 ribs
i noticed on page 14-5 step 3 and figure 2 on the page it calls for (4) AN470AD4-5 rivets in the 2nd and 3rd outboard most rib w-1012-L, left wing). But there are 8 holes in the rib when mounting it to the spar. Is this a typo and it should be calling for 8 rivets? Or if it is correct, which 4...

Why do my brakes groan?
Both my brakes make a groaning sound when the brakes are applied. The pitch is slightly different from left to right. This is a mystery to me. The brakes work perfectly. They stop well. They track perfectly straight. Nothing is rubbing. The pads are wearing evenly. Is it possible the support...

Aft C.G. Issue is baffling me
Weighted my plane today and yes, I have read the sticky thread on weight and balance and my issues just didn’t fit there so I thought I would add a new thread specifically for the RV-7. First, I built a heavy plane. Primmed, painted, carpet, leather and full IFR with smoke. It’s just the way I...

Upper cowl pic
If I could get a pic of the upper cowl ramp where the forward prop governor is I’d really appreciate it. I have the stock ramps from the original engine but with the forward governor, the left side will need to be cut. A pic with the baffling in place through the inlet would be fine. Thanks.

AN hardware everywhere?
First off, I’m not a builder. I sold my RV9 and am working on a Glastar now, installing a complete SDS system. My question regards the use of AN hardware. Is it considered poor form, or a safety issue, to use “regular” screws, nuts etc for non structural fasteners in aircraft? Say stainless...

Glide testing. Critique my test plan.
With the RV14 post bringing up some good points about engine out glide vs prop spinning glide, I figured this might be a decent area to go get some no kidding data on. I'm a flight test engineer, I have an airplane, seems like a good match. So here's the general plan.... Airplane: 2022 RV7...
