RVs on Skies
Got skis?
Has anyone successfully installed and operated skis on their RV? I am considering Aero 2800 retractable wheel penetration skis for my RV-14. These thoughts happen when it’s-6f outside.

Help wiring AeroLED VXi wing tip lights
I started another thread recently looking for recommendations for shops that would build custom harnesses for me to accommodate my AeroLED VXi lights. Basically everybody just said do it myself so I'm going to see how far I can get trying it myself - with your help! Here's where I'm at- I'm...

Diverted today for an overtemp.
I ran across something interesting today, and I wonder if others have seen it. I wanted to get this written out while it's still fresh in my my memory. This morning I launched out of Longview TX KGGG for home 73XA VFR with flight following at 8500, due to higher headwinds aloft. Preflight, taxi...

Designing a 3D Phone Cradle to Use Instead of Kneeboard
For the last few months I've been using only my iPhone in the cockpit, leaving the iPad home. Less stuff to keep track of on contract gigs and in the sim. Also, the phone is always with me and can talk to the Internet without tethering (my iPad is Wi-Fi only). Faster to file and amend flight...

Canopy cracked in flight!
Hi all - I was flying in my RV-8 on a cold day and was climbing to avoid some clouds (and potential icing), and heard two large pops or bangs at around 15,000 feet (around 0F or -11C temp). When I landed, I saw that the canopy was cracked almost 3/4 of the way around (see picture). Any advice...

Service loop for wing/fuselage connectors?
Dumb question: how much of a service loop do I need between wing harness and the fuselage harness connector? My wing wiring harness was installed (I’m 2nd builder), and I’m installing a Stein fuselage harness (with mods) now. thx!

Hartzell Blended Airfoil / Prop Flange Bushings
I could do with a bit of help - firewall forward is definitely a steep learning curve each and every day! I went to mount the prop so that I can start work on the cowlings and discovered that not all prop flanges are equal. Well, specifically, prop bushings. I've tried searching, I've...

Starter: 2AWG or 4AWG
I'm finalizing my RV-10 electrical design and I wanted some feedback on the size of wire for the starter. I have the battery and contactor in the tailcone and 2AWG from the contactor to the firewall. The question is: do I want 2AWG or 4AWG from the starter contactor to the starter? It's a fairly...

Why we use stainless hose ends--
I recieved a call the other day from a gentlemen wanting to know if we could help him. He stated that he 'broke' a fitting. Well generally this is no big deal, but sure, send us the hose and we'll look at it. Well it arrived and as I suspected, the nut was broken at the flare from overtorque...

Flap Crank to Torque Arm Distance
Page 34-02 Step 5 has me measuring the distance between the flap crank and torque arm. It's not clear to me where on the right hand side of the attached picture do I start the measurement. Is it from the torque arm or the WH-00026 which was attached to it in an earlier step?

VAF Charity Cap: Help your charity and promote this site.
Get the cap all the cool kids are wearing! I don’t get a penny. It’s around $15. $5 more if you want your N-number on the back (I put 'STAFF' on the back of mine because it makes me laugh. Put STAFF on yours too if it makes you smile). And down the road $10 to the charity of your choice...
