Tablet mount

How did you mount your tablet?
Mine is not an Apple so no need to be specific about brands. I'm more interested in the other end. How and where did you attach the mount?
I ordered one of these to try and mount from the roll bar brace. I could maybe attach to the roll bar on either side.

The post isn't intended to discuss the merits of tablets or apps.

I attached a ram ball mount to the right side of the panel. Over the years I have used various tablets and this allows me to adjust the location to whatever works at the time, or remove it and leave just the ball mount. Currently I use the PIVOT case system with an iPad because I love the fact that it is a solid case and it slides right into the ram mount adapter. No need to swap or remove cases in order to mount the tablet. If you don’t have room on the panel I imagine you could mount a ball on the side below the canopy somewhere.

I have just enough blank space on the right side of my panel for a RAM suction cup mount. I have a couple of RAM Roll'R mounts that I can attach to it for either my 11" M4 iPad Pro or my iPad Mini 6. Very secure and very convenient. I've contemplated just permanently mounting a standard ball mount instead of the suction cup but haven't really identified a pressing need to do so. It's on my list of things to do to the airplane, but way at the bottom.

ETA: looking at the above photo got me thinking about alternatives to the suction cup mount. Maybe I can cobble up a way to mount a RAM ball in either of the two 2-inch gauge holes. The one on the right is some kind of clock/timer that's only right twice a day...no loss to remove it.

I mounted one of these on the non skyview side of the panel..https://pivotcase.com/products/universal-articulating-mount. Pivot makes a bunch of variations on the mounts. Not cheap but it is the one that we use at work and they are a great way to protect and mount your tablet.

I mounted a ram ball on triangular area between the panel and the roll bar (you can see what I mean in the picture in post#3 - the black painted area).
I use a very short Ram arm that attaches between the mounted ball and the tablet bracket.

I am using an 11” iPad that blocks 1/2 my view of the G5 that is on the far right side of the panel, which is OK for me because I don’t use the G5 much. If my PFD failed, it would be easy enough to take the iPad off the mount to give me a better view.

I don’t use the iPad a lot during flight but it useful for check lists and approach charts.

I have mounting accessories that came with the Dynon D3. Look up what's "in the box" and make an offer if any of that stuff will help

I hang mine off the left side of the glareshield with a RAM Mount X-Grip. I’ve been very happy with this setup with my Mini.

Larry,

I mounted a RAM ball on the longeron in front of the roll bar, and then used the shortest arm to attach to the ball on my tablet mount. It's in about the same position as the picture in post # 8, but closer to the windscreen.

I have ball mounts installed like Bardample. They were installed before I upgraded from 6 pak to HDX - location works well for both.

Where did you get those mounts?
RAM mounts. I've done that on three planes. After the hassles of using bolt and nuts for first install, I just riveted the last few builds using all aluminium rivets ( from local hardware store) so I could easily drill out if need be .Jeff R Australia.

RAM and RAM-compatible mounts are all over Amazon. I would be more interested in this mount for it's lower profile and single hole. That said...I also really like the concept of pop rivets. Anything that will keep me from going under the panel is a good thing.

I ordered a clamping style mount to try first. If it won't clamp to the roll bar, plan "B" is a two hole flange 1" Ram ball. I saw the one hole but I'm not crazy about all the weight flexing on one hole.

Larry,

I used the two hole diamond shaped base attached to the longeron, and then tapped holes in the longeron to accept machine screws. Seems pretty sturdy.

I had a ball mount but found it clumsy. I ended up making a triangular sheet metal frame with Velcro on the panel and the iPad. Seems more secure and easier to type on.
