Memory Items Study Method

Edward Tufte style update to King Air 350 recurrent limitations and memory items. Planning on making up something similar for the RV-6 panel.

Below are 98 flash cards crammed into 1 card, with an Edward Tufte angle. (longtime fan - have several of his books).

It’s King Air 350 recurrent time here coming up for my side hustle, and I’m trying something new this year in regards to emergency memory items. It’s quite possible I will incorporate this into my RV. In my never ending quest to get more information into fewer characters (something I strangely enjoy), I’ve come up with the following. This method might already exist - I haven’t looked. In a nutshell,

  • In the limitations section up top, numbers are just numbers. '1' means 'one pilot'. That's a limitation. '15' means '15 passengers'. The idea being to get rid of everything except the actual data that needs to be in my head for the oral.
  • in the emergency memory items section: the raised row means ON or PRESS or INCREASE and
  • the lower row means RETARD or OFF or DECREASE.
  • items in green multiply by 1000 (35 means 35,000)
  • blue is icing. red is danger.
  • an *asterisk before something means AS REQUIRED.

A screen grab of the work in progress….subject to change a hundred times. In my weird brain, I’m finding this more useful than flashcards.

Going to work up something similar for my RV-6.

I like your style, Doug!
So, just to confirm your shorthand:
N1 limits (other than idle) is "Starfighter, and MAX oil pressure is equal to the "dash" number of the ubiquitous Boeing USAF tanker?
Noice!

Yep, good eye <g>. N1 limits are '104' (Starfighter) and the Oil Press limits are 90 thru 135 (as in KC-135). Oil Temp is zero thru 110 (outlet). '820' is a road that goes around nearby Fort Worth.

For some reason I can remember the pictures a little easier - the flash card grid is a little dry for my goldfish attention span. The numbers in this chart are the hardest for me to memorize. Too dang many.

Damn the KA 350 has a lot of limitations and memory items!!!!!
