I’m finally in the process of riveting the fuselage together after months of prep. When I riveted the forward auxiliary longeron, the one between the center section and the firewall, the skin deformed pretty considerably at the joggle. It didn’t look bad until I riveted it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I put a ruler against the skin and there’s a depression on about the first 3 rivets starting at the joggle. I drilled out a few rivets so I can shim it. However, I’m thinking about just cutting the joggles off and making an overlapping tab out of .063 material. Does that sound reasonable? What did others do here?

Yep, I would make individual shims from various thicknesses of scrap, dimple them and shove them in. You should check the height and angle of flanges with a ruler before drilling/riveting on a skin. If you can't fix a discrepancy with the seamer, plan to glue (with cyananoacrylate) a shim in place before clecoing and riveting on the skin.

An angle is an angle for a reason, and the joggled angle (if you cut the joggled leg off) would need a nested angle repair, requiring the free flange to have rivets in it also, and the repair angle would be longer than the trimmed area approximately 3 fasteners. Refer to the AC 43.13 if your going to repair an angle. IF its not too deformed, and can be straightened and then a tapered shim put in the gap, you can sand sheet stock to make tapered shims. I used a few on my RV-4 build.

I fabricated my own stiffener from an angle stock.

I did joggle this way. The offset is attached via 5 size -4 rivets. All -4 rivets are flush rivets so it sits flat to the skin and also to make the top side of the stiffener flat.
