Hinges for securing upper and lower cowl

For the horizontal hinges connecting the upper and lower cowl

1) are the standard rolled hinges sufficient or should I go with extruded ?

2) do folks go with offset hinges (pics would help) so the the eyelets are not seen at the seam ?

Would appreciate hinge part numbers if folks didn’t use the stock vans hinge.

I think offsetting the hinge to prevent seeing the “teeth” is smart. You’ll probably have to buy wider hinge material though.

I used provided hinge material and offset the hinge so the eyelets don’t show. 13 years and 1600 plus hours and no broken eyes

You didn't say which plane you have. So, which plane do you have. A six clyinder engine runs much smoother then a four clyinder engine. With a four clyinder engine, I recommend the extruded hinge.

All of mine (2-RV4’s, 2-RV6’s, 2-RV8’s) all had the standard Vans rolled hinges, except my newest/current RV6 which has the extruded hinges. I bought this kit used and it didn’t have any rolled hinges, but I had plenty of extruded in my shop, so I used that. All have worked very well, with no broken eyelets. I didn’t do anything special to offset the hinge line and it looks fine - in my opinion.
