G3X Touch SW v9.50 Available Now (8/5/2024)

What I was able to verify as long as you don't install an update in the config mode AND your VPX is in communication with the MFD (vs the PFD) you can turn off each circuit in the VPX to help with the install as needed but with 9.51
True. But if not in config mode you cannot monitor progress of each LRU update so you don't know when to tell VPX to turn on the remaining LRUs in sequence.

G3X Touch v9.51 is now available here. This update includes an improvement to the LRU software loading process that will resolve the slow/failed LRU code loads a few people were experiencing.
Thanks Justin, I assume installing this is unnecessary if we were able to get 9.50 to load?

Data point - I had to pull all G3X Touch LRU fuses except the GDU-465 and GTR-20 to get the GTR software to load. On the bright side, it took me a couple of tries to disable *all* the power paths to the other core G3X Touch LRUs (ADAHRS and EIS) so I feel a lot better about my electrical system design! :)

Update worked fine for me; however, even after reading the release notes I'm not seeing any changes. What did it actually change that you've noticed?

Since updating to 9.50, I’ve consistently got the “500 feet” oral alert twice in a row every time I descend to land. It’s identical, not two different-sounding messages. I haven’t had time to check all my avionics settings all over again to see if it could be coming from the GTN 650 Xi as well as the G3X Touch. Has anyone else seen an uncommanded settings change and/or doubled alert lately?

Yes, after updating to 9.50, I get the 500’ alert twice in a row when close to terrain. No, I haven’t seen anywhere to adjust it except to turn terrain alerts on or off.

I just noticed the same thing today. I still have traffic disappear from my G3X that still shows up on my iPad with ForeFlight. That is disturbing.

I never loaded 9.5, only 9.51. I don’t have 2 callouts for 500. But I do remember in the installation notes (from a couple years ago) you get that if both a G3X and GTN are set to callout. Only one is supposed to be on. I don’t know if thats the issue here but something to check.

I dont have the GTN. Wish I did, but just the two g3x panels. Maybe both of them do the same thing?

Yes, I get two also. Notified Garmin. They hoped that 9.51 would solve the problem but it didn't.
I've actually gotten 1 once since install but can't identify the different scenario that caused this.
9.50 tweeked the callout. I had previously reported that 9.41 made my 500' callout disappear with the GHA15 callouts enabled and reappear with the GHA disabled. Another case of fixing one item and causing yet another.

Since updating to 9.51 i now get two. Never did before.

As a data point, I went up and flew the pattern to get night current last night. I got the "500-500" call the first time around the pattern, but not the last time. I wish I could remember for the middle lap. I don't know if Garmin will notice this post or make anything of it, but there it is.

I reviewed my alert volume levels and realized I have two alert volumes from the Garmin stuff; one from the G3X and one from the GNX375. Curious if they are one alert going though two different boxes to the audio panel? That would explain why they are slightly different times? maybe if i turn off alktitude alerts on the G3x, but keep them on the GNX375, I will go back to only one????

I have seen similar things before when upgrading the G3X software: previous custom settings get set to default and things need to be re enabled.

John,

I have a G3X Touch system with a GNX 375 like you and have NEVER had multiple 500 ft callouts.

I don't have any audio connection between the GNX 375 and my GMA 245 audio panel and don't know why you ever would.

All the aural alerts needed come from the GDU 4XX PFD and there is never a concern with multiple sources of aural alerts.

I also experienced the 500/500 callout the other day for the first time, no changes to the GTN.

Loaded 9.51 last night. Won't be able to fly it until Sunday, but upload was seamless. (2) G3X Touch, GTR200 Radio, G5, VPX. No GTNs.....I'm just VFR.

I mean, if they are going to add this feature, at least use Sigourney Weaver’s voice from Galaxy Quest.

I get two 500 callouts as well after 9.50 update. I was hoping 9.51 would fix this but It didn't. It seems to happen only on certain airfields, mostly at EFNU where I fly most often.

I updated to 9.51 and now my AOA seems to have gone out of calibration. It starts flashing and blinking when I slow to 100mph with plenty of energy. I have to press the mute button and it's scaring the passenger. I have never had an issue with the AOA system until now.

Having a SD card in your PFD and backing up your config settings to it and then restore from backup after a software update will keep these kind of problems from cropping up. So, you need to recalibrate your AoA now.

I did the 9.51, and now I have two 500' callouts. Bummer. But I did drop the volume on the GTN-650 audio to the G3X/245 so I don't get double traffic alerts anymore.
