Enlarging holes for wire routing

Hey guys,

I've just started avionics. Section 42MS/U-08 asks to enlarge two holes (each side) on the center fuselage channel, as required. I'm unclear why it's needed, because when reading ahead to later sections, the snap bushings called out seem to fit the current hole size. Maybe Vans changed the wiring so it's not necessary?

I haven't put the main harness in yet, so can't tell if any wire terminals will not pass through the holes. Just wanted to check with people with newer IS kit. Thanks!

As I recall, the holes were very close if not already final sized. I just checked with the right size drill in my fingers to be sure. There were a few other places in the plans where I think their manufacturing process improved but the plans haven’t caught up yet.

Same here. I think I had to make them just a tiny bit bigger. I think I remember that the terminals were not on the wires and I crimped them on after routing. It was a while ago.

Note that the instructions say "as required", but don't mention what determines the requirement🤷‍♂️. I'd say that if the bushings fit, then that's fine.
