This is to announce that James Aircraft will build & ship the "Bill Lane" plenum with your cowl.

For builders of -7 and -9 with James cowling and parallel valve engines, you can get the "Bill Lane" plenum directly from James Aircraft. I shipped my original bucks and molds to Jimmy Cox last year and he has made several already. So - if you desire to have this proven plenum design, and desire to have easy removal/assembly of the cover for maintenance, then talk to James Aircraft.

For anyone contemplating a plenum on their PV RV-7 or -9, I will tell you the Bill Lane plenum is a work of art. I watched a skilled build assist technician fight with a James plenum for over a week. I was able to install the BL plenum myself (my technician was out sick) in 1 1/2 days. At the time, I had very little experience working with baffles or fiberglass. We have had no issues with airflow or CHT's on our RV-7A, so Bill did a great job on designing the inlets.

Hope this helps. The inlets are designed to be rigidly mounted to the engine and are aligned perfectly with the cowl rings on installation. I have about 3/16" gap axially and they dont touch when the engine moves. The axial area schedule is designed to be a smooth expansion from front to back. Pressure recovery is over 80%. I have the YIO 360 M1B and standard small oil cooler. I do not have climb issues with oil temp with the standard shape of the James cowl.
