I will be painting Keri Mi this winter. Since there are three different colors of white, I am going to paint her all the same color of white. What brand of paint or type of paint have you all had the best luck with?

I used PPG Destothane single stage urethane. All white, very tough paint. Used on lots of airliners.

The typical cessna white is ‘Matterhorn white’. When I painted my -7 the painter offered 5 different choices of paint manufacturers with a price spread of 500 between the highest and lowest.

I let them pick what they thought they could give me the best paint job with. They chose jet glo. Single stage.

Do I need to sand the current paint only or take it all the way down to aluminum? And th
Its best to do a full strip and paint, but existing paint can be sanded and painted over. There are risks with that, such as poor adhesion, bleed through from contaminates and incompatibility, as well as weight. It all comes down to what you expect at the end, and how much time/money you want to spend.

Lots of variables in my opinion. If you are painting it complete and all together in one in one shot fairings removed of course or if you are painting it in pieces or sections. For example one wing at a time in pieces or sections. You mentioned all one color so that explains how complex the paint scheme is. In my opinion you can get by with automotive paint if doing it in pieces or in smaller sections at a time. The automobile paint drys fast wet edge window is small. If trying to do it all in one shot or for multiple colors and complex stripes aerospace paint for sure. The 96hr recoat window is awesome. That being said aerospace paint covers consistently faster with thinner coats, less material and less weight. I really like Sherwin Williams Sky Scapes for aerospace line. For Automotive like Valspar automotive which is owned by Sherwin Williams. PPG is good too just hate the price.

The best aviation paint is Sherwin Williams JetGlo. Looks great, lasts long time. Number two is AkzoNobel Alumigrip.
