Bad Ray Allen Trim/Rudder position indicator

Anyone found a good replacement for the Ray Allen trim/rudder position indicator? Every airplane (4 different ones) that I have owned that has had the Ray Allen indicators for the elevator and/or rudder trim. Every single one of them has either one or several bad indicator lights. My recently purchased RV-8, the rudder trim indicator was intermittent until yesterdays flight where it went out completely. Occasionally if I give it a slight tad, it will work. Bad internal connection I assume. Totally dead now. I have looked at them in the past and if I recall, they are potted so no way of fixing without ruining it.

Plane just turned over 200TT and another plane I had several years ago was under 100TT when it's indicators quit. Replacements are around $200.

I am wondering if anyone here has found a suitable replacement that has better long term reliability.

The old RP3 units were prone to failure.

The newer RP4 unit seems pretty solid.

Lots of folks have had RP4 here in classifieds, as they are using their EFIS to show position.

Try a WTB in classifieds?

If you want to stick with the older RP3 units, I have a couple NOS ones I would sell.

Yes, they are all the older RP3 units. My RANS S7, Murphy Rebel, and the RV-8 all have bad indicators. Ironically, my son just purchased a RANS S7 also and we flew it from MN to Oregon this summer....yep, his has a couple of bad LEDs also.

Interesting. Guess I just got lucky. I had 3 of the older indicators in my 7 for roll, pitch and flap. No issues for 8 years and over 800 hrs of flying. Truth be told I rarely looked at them. Just looked out the window for flap markings and trimmed for neutral feel for pitch and roll. My 8 has trim/flap indicators showing on the AFS display but again I rarely look at them.
