AndAir PX375 / Revision #7
Disassembled the non working pump for investigation. There is a composite ring that spins inside a steel ring driven by the impeller. It appears that the tolerance is to close and nothing spins freely. The electric motor spins perfectly w/12 volts without the pump parts in place .

makes sense that if the pump is run dry, the composite ring could expand and contact the outer ring. Eventually it will lock up. Gear (gerator) pumps like this are generally very reliable---as in oil pumps. But they are also generally all metal gears. (we used to modify them back in my old car racing days). To best solve the Andair pump issue, make sure the gear section is submerged in fuel and primed. DONT run it for a longer period of time if it doesnt prime and push fuel. You'll just create more issues. Thanks Tom for the autopsy!!

Did this pump fail or was it DOA? I know Andair had an SB for those running mogas. I have just installed the updated "mogas-safe" pump and it seems to be working, but of course like anyone using these, I'd like to learn all I can about possible failure modes.

If you call them they can give you an RMA number, and you can ship it back for repair - I recently did this for the SB - it took a long time, but it did get done. Might be faster to buy a second pump "locally" from another builder and get yours repaired in the background. This is what I did.

The pump failed in use . It has never been run dry . It’s located under the fuel tank in this application . Only AV Gas . The Composite Ring is meehanite . Commonly used in gear pumps .
Hopefully AndAir responds to my emails .

Andair is not great about answering e-mails, but they normally take phone calls. Need to call them in the morning US time.
