RV12 glareshield

We would like to cover our glareshield with some dark fabric to minimize reflection. It appears that it’s held in place by two pop rivets. Can these be drilled out and the glareshield easily removed and reinstalled. Anyone have any insight on this?

The directions have you glue it to the aft side of the canopy frame. May not be easy to break this bond depending on what was used.

I can’t take credit for the idea, but I used the “loop” side of adhesive-backed, 4” wide, hook and loop fabric. I was able to buy a 6’ length of the loop side only on eBay. And from the start, I drilled and tapped holes in the canopy frame to mount it, as I assumed I’d be removing it a few times until I found the right anti-reflective solution. I assume you can drill out the rivets and possibly tap them for screws, or use another rivet, unless there is excessive adhesive, as Brian mentioned.

After looking further found this was an option. Installation instructions were in add-ons section. After reading that too dangerous to remove and hope to get back in correctly.

I drilled and tapped my front roll bar and canopy arm side plates (where the two rivets normally go) for 5x 6-32 screws like what hold the instrument panel on. Worked great and easy to remove 👍

I just received a glareshield I had ordered from Van’s. It had a sticker and instructions from Showplanes, which is apparently where Van’s sources them. The Showplanes website shows them at $30 less than Van’s, but they are currently out of stock there.

Cover it with black fabric if you dont want glare on the canopy
