Carb Heat Cable Replacement

Just bought an RV-8 and had the carb heat cable (CT A-740) break at the flapper door connecting arm. My question is, do I need to replace the entire cable or can I replace the inner wire (use the knob and wire from a new unit)? Looking at the placement of the existing control placement there is very limited to no access for replacement of the entire unit. Thanks in advance for your help.

I recently replaced my inner cable with an automotive generic cable which I simply used the inner part, 60” long, was just long enuough👍

If it were me I would return the -8 back to the seller and get your $$$ back. He may be lamenting that he sold it in the first place.

You might review how that cable is stabilized to the filter housing. It’s not normal for that cable to ‘break’.

Thanks, I checked it against the plans and it is spot on...a search of this forum showed a known issue in the past but not recently.

Over time this type of cable can wear at the end of the spiral outer wrap since the travel is not straight linear. It is something I always check whenever the cowl is off. I would have no issue replacing just the inner cable.
