Alternator Shield

The electronics shield on our Alternator is cracked. They don’t sell the part so not sure if there is a place I can get one or if I should repair.

It’s a 60 amp Plane Power and looks like it was damaged when I shipped it for a checkup.

If fixing I was gonna at least stop drill the two crack lines.

As for bracing at the two full cracks I have thin metal…probably aluminum… that I can bend/cut into shape then use either JB Weld…never a fan…or silver solder paste that is good up to 450 degrees. Just not sure if that temp is too low.

Any and all ideas are welcome.
 
Yeah - it was like finding Unicorn teeth -- If you have a local alternator / starter repair company - they have access to the Lester catalog and can do a piece part breakdown of the Denso 101211-2130 and order from their sources...
 
I just had the same issue, called Plane Power and they gave me the part number. Was able to order it through Aircraft Spruce.
 
FYI -- If you want to check out the health of your Plane Power AL12-EI60 alternator, just take it to O'Reilly's or other auto parts store with an automated alternator tester. They will need to look up the test parameters & plug code for a 1998 Toyota Tercel alternator, 60A version.

Save yourself the headache/expense of shipping the alternator anywhere...
 
I just had the same issue, called Plane Power and they gave me the part number. Was able to order it through Aircraft Spruce.
Better than what I got. I had called them and was told they have no replacement, no offer of help in the matter, nothing.

Thanks! Yeah I didn’t know better. It seemed the alternator was bad. Took them 30 business days to tell me the alternator is fine. Got it back to determine it must be some plug issue on the plane side. Sucks having the plane down for almost 2 months to find that out. But I’m new to experimentals and what can be checked locally.

Also when I asked about how to repair the shield if not option to ordering a new one was available I was told to read the repair FARs.

it was after removing the shield I determined a repair was not acceptable and I needed a replacement.

Plane power was helpful…but I feel they could have been more helpful if that makes sense

For the broader audience - if you suspect a bad alternator, test the plug wiring first. Of all the failures reported here and elsewhere, it seems to be #1 on the Pareto of root causes, but often after more expensive things, in time and money, are done to check out the alternator.
