Rotax 912is installed in a legacy RV-12

This has come up before - my understanding is that there are enough center section changes that you’d basically be keeping the wings and empennage and building a new airplane otherwise. It’d be cheaper and easier to sell the 12 and buy a 12iS.

Personally I’d love to get the fuel tank design from the 12iS into my legacy 12, but even that seems impractical.

Flew this morning…. I think 10th flight since installing 3-blade carbon fiber E-Prop. Climb rate with one person and 1/2 fuel was 1200 FPM. Flew reduced power setting at 5050 RPM and saw 126 MPH TAS burning 4.4 GPM Costco 93E10 MOGAS. 3-blade carbon prop is incredibly smooth. Perfect combination of engine / airframe...

Yes, my RV-12 is SN 120058 with 980TT... Engine runs like new. 5500 RPM cruise yields 140 MPH TAS. Photo attached is 5300 RPM / 136 MPH TAS which is where I usually operate when air is smooth. I use MPH for speed and nautical miles for navigation.

What setting did you go with on the e-prop blades?

It would be a lot of work but was wandering if anyone has done it.
Yes, I did it! 😅
I startet the project 10 years ago and asked Vans if they have any plans to introduce the 912iS into the RV12. The answer was No!
I had to do it by myself.
If you visit my blog (see entry #3) you can see the modifications required.
