RV 10 Oil Pressure

New to me -10. Oil pressure gets to 90psi on takeoff, especially if oil temp is lower, around 140 degrees, but usually settles in around 85psi during cruise with oil temp at 180 degrees. Is this too high? Does anyone have the oil psi ranges-green, yellow, red for the oil pressure? Maybe it’s just a matter of resetting my ranges as it looks like always pushing the red during takeoff. 2009 Mattituck IO-540 which is made from lycoming parts TIA!!

If using G3X read how to use their Advanced Gauge program function. Lets one surpress nuisance alarms caused when other parameters are outside normal range like oil temps. Great feature !

It is fine. Red line is 100 or 110, based upon the vintage. Oil pressure will vary with oil temp. Colder oil will give higher pressures than warm oil. I think there also may be something a bit different in the 540's oil system. My OP spikes on initial take off power application and drifts down to normal levels over the next 60 seconds. I thought it might have just been my unique engine characteristics, but suspect it may be a unique quirck of the 540, as I don't see that behavior on my 320.

As always, one should reference the proper manual.

Nothing wrong with 90 at full power. If that bothers you, adjusting cruise to 75 will lower the 90 number and put you right at the sweet spot.

Mine does the same. I have the top of my green arc set at 95 PSI per the Lycoming Operator's Manual.

I want to set an "If/Then" in the G3X so that if Oil Temp is less than X and Oil Pressure is greater than 95 but less than 115 PSI, it will not trigger a Caution.

I just need to figure out how to do it.

I have the oil pressure gauge for my IO-360 set up like this:

Gauge maximum: 125 PSI

Gauge markings:

90-96 PSI - Yellow range + alert, require logic signal 3 clear
96-125 PSI - Red range + alert, require logic signal 3 clear
110-116 PSI - Yellow range
116-125 PSI - Red range + alert

Logic signal 3 is set when oil temperature is below 120F, with a 5-second delay on both set and clear.

When the oil is cold, this gives me higher limits, corresponding to the "start and warm-up" value in the manual. Once the oil warms up, the high-pressure limits on the gauge come down to match the manual's "max" restriction.

I also have a three-stage progression of low-pressure limits that move dynamically with RPM, but I've omitted those here for clarity.

Got this fixed today. I created an "Invisible Range" for Oil Temperature of 50F (the bottom of my scale) to 150F. This is set as Logic Signal 1.

I already had an Oil Pressure "Yellow Range + Alert" set for 95 PSI - 115 PSI. This would usually cause an "Oil Pressure" Caution for a few seconds after takeoff as Oil Pressure reached 96 to 99 PSI while the oil warms. It just takes 30 seconds or so for Oil Pressure to drop back below 95 PSI.

I created a new "Yellow Range" set for 95 PSI - 115 PSI and changed the existing 95 PSI - 115 PSI "Yellow Range + Alert" to require Logic Signal 1 to be "Clear."

So, the 95 PSI - 115 PSI alert won't trigger unless oil temp is above 150F. Looking at my past data, by the time Oil Temp reaches 150F, Oil Pressure is consistently below 95 PSI.
