...worked side jobs (Fri night sim - Sat SIC duty). Sun recovery, Mass and VAF keyboard tasks. A working weekend w/no RV sadly.

About to launch off FTW a BEAUTIFUL blue rocket landed in front of us. Guessing based at FTW. Stunning!!!!! RVs all around - me in none of them. :^(

FBO from the 50's (awesome wood panel walls and a couch from the 70's - it really was pretty cool). Had a 9-pin OKI Microline 184 Turbo dot matrix printer still in use. Think I sold these as an assistant manager at Micro City in Irving, TX back in the late 80's. Flying just a dream and PPL a decade away.

Multiple RVs in the pattern at T67 as we were turning final back home. Monitoring on COMM 2 ;^)

Back on the ramp at FTW the sun shone through the old American Airways hangar. Didn't suck. 500kn GS coming back at FL330 didn't stink either.

At destination....nice day in and around TX.

Clear blue skies, old school FBO, Bellanca Viking pics on the walls… Plainview, Texas!

Please tell me you had a glass bottle of orange Crush out of that old school vending machine in the break room…

Detective Bixby, excellent work! And yes I did <g>.

We gave the FBO guys the ten donuts we had left and about 15 pigs in a blanket that our pax didn't eat, so they told us not to put any gas in the crew car when we went for lunch <grin>. They even had a ground radio that reached Lubbock Clearance Del. Pretty flat out there .:)
Thought about going to the Jimmy Dean museum, but ran short on time.

Extra points for aliens on my socks <g>. Nobody noticed...

Battery install in the RV sometime next week fingers crossed.

Flew with one of my best friends from Peachtree City (KFFC) to Oconee County (KCEU) for the Clemson/Citadel football game. Got cleared through the ATL Class B at 4,500’ over KATL and downtown Atlanta. Circled the stadium this morning before heading back home.

The old closed control tower in the distance next to my friend Ray’s hanger. KPVW is a great cross country stop.

I took an RV8 from the south coast of the UK up to Scotland for the new owner on Friday. We had a rare period of beautiful winter weather the whole length of the country.

This RV8 was considerably quicker than my RV6, I kinda wished I had bought it. It was a real treat to fly it again.

Approaching the Pennines, just east of Manchester.

The seller then picked me up in his RV10 and we flew back home. We flew the entire length of the country, both ways, landing at a 400m (1300ft) undulating grass strip, had lunch and were back home an hour before sunset. RVs are definitely the way forward :)

Great RV weekend for me. Saturday afternoon flew a missing man formation with 4 other RV buddies for our fallen EAA chapter president.

But the best part is on Sunday I got to fly my 4 year old grandson for his first flight!!

Those pics of Scotland, beautiful!

And yes, I’m jealous! Last May I was fortunate to fly a C-47(DC-3) on a North Atlantic crossing for the Normandy D-Day commemoration; on the leg from Reykjavik to Prestwick I was anxious to see Scotland in all its green glory… but, nope. All I saw was clouds and rain, IMC from the Outer Hebrides all the way to a murky/rainy ILS at Prestwick. I was robbed! But damn those beers at the pub in Troon were tasty.

BTW, those fellows at Scottish Control sure talk funny. I think it was English, but I’m not really sure… 😝

I used my awesome RV-3 to hop over to Steamboat to ski a few runs on opening day. They didn’t have much terrain open and really only one lift, but it’s fun to be involved in opening day. I would’ve never done it if I had to make the 3 hour drive each way. Even with up to 60 knots headwind, it still only took me 50 minutes to get there. Coming home was around 35 minutes. Skied 3 runs, had a few cups of coffee at my condo, hung out with the crew at the local FBO for a few minutes, and headed home.

Capped off the day by having dinner with friends (RV-6 & Rocket owners) in Denver and taking in the latest Warren Miller film at the Paramount Theater. Gotta live like a rockstar for the next week because I have more surgery scheduled for my right arm next week. Who knows how long that’ll ground me.

Spent a few weeks working on the plane and tomorrow I will finish up Aurora’s Condition Inspection. Today I went to pick up the tail and set it on my mechanic stool….except I couldn’t. Tada, good use of my off-road high lift jack.
Stupid cancer really sucks

Blue Wren Wines at Mudgee (YMDG) is right across the road from the airport gate.

They used to do a good a la carte lunch at their restaurant on weekends, but some years ago they decided to replace it with a set menu that needed an advance booking, so fly-up lunches lost their appeal and I've hardly been there since.

But earlier this year the restaurant got a new owner. Sydney family who used to run restaurants in the big smoke, looking to down-shift to a quieter life. And they've brought the walk-up menu back.

So I figured it deserved a mission to see if it was good enough to take passengers to.

Practice RNP approach to runway 22. Grilled trout with a green salad and a garlic roasted asparagus side. Bumpy VFR flight back home over Lithgow and Katoomba back to Bankstown.

They're not cheap (restaurant in AUD, not burger bar in USD). But the setting is lovely, the service is good, and it's only 50 minutes from Sydney in an RV, so what's not to like? I'll be back with company next time.

Pricey, yes, but omigod that sounds sooo much better than the usual burger n fries we get at most US airport diners!

(When considering price, note that we don't do taxes or tips in Australia. The advertised price is the price you pay)
