Post Oshkosh rework starting.
When I was building, and now when I am flying, every time I come back from Osh, I have a lot of great ideas I just have to do on my plane.
My GIB thinks Osh is expensive. No, post Osh is expensive.

Post Osh rework:
*Flip tires on rims
*Repitch prop for more rpms
*Buy new tent for fall camping
*Get IFR ticket ( we all lucked out this year w good weather; wait till next year y’all are saying)
*Enjoy the last bit of summer now that the kids are back in school
*Hide my credit card from Steinair and Garmin

This week my new to me 10 was flown out of Waco to Franklin NC with Sam Lindsay. Sam is a flight instructor proficient with all model RVs and had enough time in RV10s to qualify for my insurance check out. Stayed there 2 nights, got my BFR, HP and insurance time complete, bonus of some mountain flying. Met Mark Conner who provided me a 2nd firehose of wisdom on 10 flying and management. Flying home solo was enough time to now be legal for passengers.

Today I am going to try and get out to recalibrate the magnetometer, tis about 15-20 degrees off. It thought I was smart perusing the pilot manual, did not think to go over the install manual. The pitot static system required lots of work to pass IFR tests, perhaps this is the culprit.

Just flying around locally putting on hours. Since I drove to Oshkosh this year my RV feels neglected so I am giving it some exercise.

Standard mission to PA - went VFR as I like to stay visual when thunderstorms are around. Presidential TFR was blocking the west side of Wilmington/Philly, so I went around the east side and got routed right over the approach path to KPHL and the city. Great views!

If memory serves, John's 9 is a poster child for baffle and inlet sealing done right.

John, tell 'em about your temperature fix on the right side.

Finally have the start of the rear fuse again, I was here about a year and a half ago, very glad to be seeing the larger parts coming together again!

I elected to do a "redo" option, which eliminated LCP in my build. I bought the extra parts above and beyond the free parts, to get basically a new emp kit, minus a few things like the power coated parts and wiring etc, which was easy to take out and off the already built emp. I also got put in line for new QB fuse and wings, of which I have the fuse already, and wings are due early 2025. Back on track (just have a "higher" value build)!

Ok Dan, I will tell them. Nice meeting you by the way, it was a real honor.

First off, on the right side, the Lycoming cylinders are pretty far forward. I installed the ramps to the upper cowl per the instructions, but didn’t have the right ramp as far forward as possible. Once the baffles were cut and installed, the right side clearance between the cowl ramp and the cylinder was only an inch or so. During phase 1, I was able to keep the chts in check, mainly due to mild coastal weather. But after a while, I wasnt happy with chts on climb out.
So not wanting to change the baffles, I just moved the center section of the right cowl ramp forward and glassed in a smooth transition before paint.
Its not perfect, but works fairly well. Coming back from Osh, takeoff from KVGT at 105F, I had to reduce climb rate and increase airspeed to keep chts in check, but did not have to pull back power.
In addition, I always had a low oil temp, so I blocked off 3/4” of oil cooler and this also helped bring down chts.

One will also notice the bottom seal is removable. When removing the bottom cowl, I loosen the 3 stainless screws and drop down the seal assembly. Makes removing the lower cowl much easier. The seal is just glued to the stock metal band with contact cement

On a trip to upper west coast to check off the last 7 states in my
goal to land my RV10 in all lower 48. Stuck in Redding CA with failed plug and harness for some extra days (failure happened on Saturday). Got to see some AWESOME sights over mountains. Plus got a GREAT factory Van’s in Aurora!IMG_3549.jpegIMG_8039.jpegIMG_8016.jpegIMG_8082.jpegIMG_3889.jpeg

Went out to clean off the hard core bugs with Simple Green Airplane, but it was 85° and light drizzle, so not very comfortable. Also wanted to get everything off the floor that I didn't want to get wet. My hangar floor gets wet with just a little bit of rain, and with Debby promising as much as 12" here... Where to put all that? On the wings... carefully.

We've had similar skies to that posted by Doug in post #1 above for almost a month now. Started as dust from a storm in NM, then became smoke/haze from a variety of fires in the SW, most notably UT and CA.

Had some real good thunderstorms and heavy rain move through northern AZ on Thursday night and it cleaned out the air. Took the RV6 out for a ride and the high desert had some nice green to it from the summer monsoon rains.

Village of Oak Creek just off the nose and to the left with its two golf courses, Bell Rock straight ahead, airport mesa at 11 o'clock, Flagstaff peaks straight ahead about 30 miles:

the wx had been crappy a lot of the time so when it gets good you go to Marthas vineyard land at katama airport and take the $1 trolly to Edgartown for muscles lobster salad and key lime pie. a bus schedule comes in handy.
