Default migrated from Picasa

Testing theory about Google photo accounts migrated from Picasa. Theory is links from migrated accounts will work long term whereas links from non-migrated accounts will stop working after some time.

This is a photo from a migrated account although this photo was added to the account after migration:

This is the same photo from a newer account not migrated from Picasa:

BTW both photo links ended in "... s1874-no" and changing that to "... s900-no" made the size better on the screen.

Default Remove ?authuser=0

Go to https://photos.google.com/
Create a shared album by clicking the + next to the search bar
Select Shared Album
Select a picture for the album
Click "Create"
Name the album. I created a album called "VAF Forum Posts"
Click "Share"
Click "Done"

Add pictures you want to share to this album.

When you want to post a picture, go to the album and select the picture so it's full screen.
Right click the photo and select "Copy image address"
Click the "Insert image" icon then paste the saved image address in the field. It will be a long link.
My image doesn't work when I follow the exact instructions BUT I deleted the end of my link "?Authuser=0" and it worked. Probably something to do with the share settings of the album, but again I thought I did everything right.

URL originally: "lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC...=w1303-h977-no?authuser=0"
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0

URL when it worked: "lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC...=w1303-h977-no"

You did, they recently added that extra at the end and what you discovered is the answer to the problem.

Using the instructions in the OP I wasn't able to get google photos to show up. However in this post:

there's a bit about editing the end of the url in various ways, and after playing around I was finally able to do it by changing
[long url]-no?authuser=0 to [long-url]-no-tmp.jpg.

Also it doesn't seem to work to use the (shorter) link you can get by selecting "Create link" on the google photo, I had to start with the long link from right clicking the photo per the OP then edit the end of that.

EDIT: Well, that didn't work either. At first it did but after a few days my photo dissappeared from VAF.
However I found this which seems to work fine: https://www.labnol.org/embed/google/photos/

Default Embed google photos

Hey all,

I have been using this little website to help with google. It is pretty easy. You go to google photos, open up a photo you want, and click on the create link option under the share icon. You copy that link, paste it into the embed google photos, and it spits back a "direct image link" you can copy and paste into VAF.

As an example, we took a night flight last night, and here is the Sabrina Lee getting ready to go back into the hangar. All I did with this photo was resize to 800 pixels wide when I posted into VAF. You do that by changing the final =w2400 to =w800 in the link.

Blue skies

Hi Geoff, I'm reading this with great interest as I've always been picture challenged here on VAF. And I am therefore, as you've probably surmised, a computer idiot. Could you please help me with this part of your post

(paste it into the embed google photos, and it spits back a "direct image link")

as I don't know how to find it.

Thanx much

Default You can now attach pictures

After you click "Post Reply", click on the paper clip next to the smiley face.
That will let you upload a file (for example a picture) from your computer.
