And such batteries on G5s (and equivalent gadgets) are an absolutely FANTASTIC feature when you really need them. When everything else goes dark, you’re looking at a nice bright screen with airspeed, altitude, and attitude. Imagine what Lindbergh would have given for that… Throw in an iPhone (or better yet, an iPad with GPS) with ForeFlight etc. — and now nonprecision approaches of the “illegal but I’ll worry about that when I’m back on the ground” variety are definitely doable.
There can’t be many such people but: if anyone out there is installing a battery powerable EFIS or AI and has decided to forgo the battery, please rethink that. The cost/benefit in terms of safety is off the charts. PM me for details of why I have reached this conclusion!
