We had a very successful RV Fly-In last fall here at WV30 (Rainelle, WV) and will have another one this year on Sept. 13 - 15. Mark your calendar.

We now have an enclosed and heated 2-room shower! Built in part by local contributions and an RAF grant - it is first class! Here's the RAF article about it: https://theraf.org/rainelle-west-virginia-gets-new-shower-house/

You don't have to wait for September - drop in anytime. Field info is contained in the RAF Airfield Guide or you can call the number in the RAF article for more info. We love RVs here at WV30 but be prepared to be peppered with questions from me as I'm deep into my build now and loving it.

Just a reminder of our Fly-In at WV30 Sept. 13 -15. We'll provide dinner both Friday and Saturday nights and breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings. Just RSVP to me a week or so in advance if you're coming. The information on our strip is in the RAF Directory. It's long and wide and on a mountaintop with no obstructions.

Bob, You should post this on the RAF Event page. It would be easier to find there. Isn't there some notes about elevation changes in the runway? The RAF Directory (AirField Guide) no longer has notes like this.
Thinking about coming from MI.

Will do Jim.

The runway elevation changes aren't significant. We had one nose wheel RV crack a wheel pant while taxiing off the runway last year. We'll mark spots to avoid this year and I'll post a map with the best parking location marked.

Bob didn't mention it, but he operates a Cessna Crusader out of there. No problem flying an RV off this runway.

Beautiful place, and a great host.

Bob, sorry about the runway comment above. I had WV30 mixed up with VG16, Landis Airport which does have an unusual runway. As Dan mentions above, since you fly a Cessna Crusader out of there, the runway should be no problem.

The weather forecast for this weekend is looking pretty good considering a hurricane is making landfall on the gulf coast soon. The local forecast is mainly calling for clouds on Friday and Saturday and a little clearing on Sunday. Friday has the highest chance of rain at 18%. That's flying weather in my book so come on up! I'm attaching a map that shows our strip with best parking areas and buildings marked. Note that we have two showers with sinks and toilets, a hangar that will always be open (in case of a freak storm) , and fire rings for campfires. We'll be cooking dinner Friday and Saturday nights and breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings so I need a good head count. Please send me a PM if you are coming. Hope to see you there.

A lttiel additional info:

Our strip is long and wide. If it's really windy you can get some turbulence on approach but usually there's no problem. The best weather info is from Beckley, WV (KBKW). Lewisburg is closer but it's in a valley and the weather there can be very different. Our field elevation is about 3,500 MSL, Beckly is at 2,500 so subtract 1,000 feet from Beckley's reported ceiling and that should be our approximate ceiling. We are among the highest peaks around so terrain is not a problem but there is a cell phone tower just off the NW of the airport. It's on the map and you'll see it.

Not much to do up here but hang out with other RV owners. We'll have a car (maybe two) that people can borrow if they want to go somewhere. Plenty of shelter if it rains in a hangar and on the porch of our shower. Dinner provided both Friday and Saturday nights and breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings. so bring your lunch. We have fire pits to cook over and hang around at night. Some hiking around the airport with good views off the mountain.

Also meant to mention that the windsock is on top of the building on the west side of the runway about midway down the field.

Our core group from Tennessee has canceled and we're going to schedule a rain date for them. We're still open for business here for anyone who wants to come.this weekend Just don't expect to see a lot of airplanes.

Our Saturday schedule abruptly opened up here and we'd like to drop in - last time I landed at Rainelle, the restaurant was still open so it's been awhile...

Unfortunately the WX looks unconducive - if KROA has an 800 foot solid overcast at mid-day, we're not getting out of the valley here at Hop-Along. If it breaks up early enough, we may hop over. 20 RV minutes away.

Best wishes for a successful Flamping weekend on the mountaintop!

Crap! I wish I’d seen the event posted in June as I’d come up there. Is this an annual event? If so, I’ll mark it on the calendar for next year.
Have fun you all!

Bill, come on over if you can. Most everyone has cancelled so you may be the only one. I think we're going to try again in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.

Danny, most everyone's cancelled but one group is trying to pick some dates in the next few weeks to come up so you may not be out of luck. If they reschedule I'll post the new dates here so check back. I'm sure we'll do it again next year as well. And when you come, bring that dog in your pic with you. I've got one that looks just like it. Border Terrier?

I was really looking forward to this weekend, but I guess Ms Patti and I are out too. Forecast for the morning says it would probably be a scud run out of Alabama and well into north Georgia.

Thanks. I'l keep an eye out for your post. My Cairn is getting a bit old for the trip(15yo), but I have a mini aussieDoodle who is a gamer.
