I've run into a strange issue where the inboard bottom wing skin is sitting proud of the fuel tank skin by about .015". I noticed that the skins weren't flush while we were riveting the rest of the skin but I assumed it would come together as we set the rivets. Unfortunately after setting the first rivet it was obvious that isn't the case.
The most likely issue to me is that I must not have countersunk the holes deep enough for the dimples. However, I used a test piece of .032" with a dimple in it to check the depth of the countersunk holes further out from the inboard skin and they allow the test piece to sit flush with the tank. I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have changed the setting on my countersink cage part of the way through the spar without going back and redoing any that I needed to.
I can see that I did use my edge forming tool on the skin so that shouldn't be the issue.
I can also see a very small gap between the bottom skin and the tank skin so I know that they aren't running into each other.
I'll check with Van's about this but since it's still the weekend has any one else encountered this before?
