When is the Date of Manufacture?

Today I completed the last item in the KAI, other than installing the data plate, that I intend to do before DAR inspection. I probably won't do the wheel pants and canopy frame covers until paint. But it's a month or two away from inspection, as I've haven't run the engine yet or done much of the PAP yet.

So is there some specific event that marks the DoM? Or do I pick some random date between now and inspection to put on the paperwork and the data plate?

IIRC, I used the date of my airworthiness inspection. At that point it legally went from being a very expensive hobby to being an actual airplane. I had my data plate ready and the FSDO inspector watched me rivet in place after he signed the airworthiness certificate.

Seems like a chicken and egg issue. I don't think they can pass it without the plate, but I wouldn't want to put the date on the plate until it passes. But if the date is arbitrary then I guess I could do it in advance and hope it passes. :)

Date of Manufacturer is the date of issuance of the airworthiness certificate. The date of manufacture is not required on the data plate.

Another wrinkle, which is a question for Mel, I guess. The KAI refers to the 8130-15 which I got from Van's. It has a DoM in 2024 on it, which I think was when I request the documentation. I thought I was going to finish it that year, but then stuff happened.

So what happens if the 8130-15 doesn't match the other paperwork at inspection time?

Van's provided me with Form 8130-15, Light-Sport Aircraft/Kit Statement of Compliance, which listed the "Date of Manufacture". I was warned to use EXACTLY the wording and dates provided by Van's when submitting my paperwork.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Must be a difference between E-LSA and E-AB.

OK, possible misunderstanding. I was presuming we were talking E-AB. On E-LSA, it's the date shown on the -15.

I also used Van’s guidance per the above off of the 8130-15. I have used the same date on everything as well as on the AWC website.
