Wheel pants not translucent

Got time this weekend to work on my wheel pants. Plans call for drilling the holes for the attachment brackets by marking the brackets and seeing the marks through the translucent wheel pant. Vans must have changed manufacturing my pants are a dark grey opaque fiberglass. Vans is closed, anyone else solved this?

The newer kits include small, spherical magnets, for hole locating.

Manual revision addresses the magnets

Look in the manual Section 5, page 5-18.

If you have an older manual you may not have the latest version of Section 5.

The magnets sound faster, but shining a laser The cheap HF laser level works, but even a laser pointer would work for this) through each hole, then mounting the pant, will give you a dot at the right spot. Laser levels have a lot of other uses while building, as well.
