Unexpected Saturday RV flight popped up - first RV flight in 23 days (that’s embarassing). Susie was teaching classes all morning, so I drove out to the airport to fiddle with stuff (was in the side job sim until 10pm Fri night). When I got there I found out a 4-ship missing man was flying over at 10am for a gentleman who passed.

Randy was flying one of the planes, then he was going over to Eagle’s Nest to pick up Alex DeDominicis to bring him back so he could pick up his 7A.

“I can go get him, you’re busy.” So I did.

Easy flight going and coming, and got to catch up with my friend.

Mental gyros re-aligned.

Coming:

There were some CAF flights going on at Redbird. Shared the air with a B-25 at one point. Always neat to see.

That's on my To Do list! Turley has fantastic wines. I think it is time for a flight to Paso.

NZCS to NZWF, then up the Matukituki, Cascade Saddle, Dart River, Parks Pass, Hollyford River, Ellington Valley, Kiwiburn to Mossburn. We're going to land at Mossburn but as my good friend Sam said on the phone last night, that's where they make wind. And he's right... it was blowing 20knots and all over the place so we only got to Short Finals before I bugged out and headed home... via Five Rivers, Nevis and Bannockburn.

1.4 hours of stunning scenery.

Clocked first hundred hours on the new engine. Double that and it's properly broken in :)

A herd of elk came to the airport bench. A small group was exploring the runway.

Saturday 11/11 (Veterans Day) we flew over to French Lick, Indiana (KFRH) for another BBQ Flyin - possibly the last one this season. They have excellent BBQ and lots of airplanes coming on such a beautiful day. We flew over from KHAO, near Cincinnati, in a three ship. We’ve enjoyed these FRH flyins, and hope they keep having them.

Another trip to NC for Vintage motorcycles.
Haven't been to the Wheels Through Time Museum in 12 years so decided to see friends and do the visit again.

Nice flight up Friday with some IMC but rain held off until we got the plane put away.
Sunday the return trip was IMC a good portion of the return flight and down to 500' minimums at the home airport non-precision approach.
Looked like the whole SE was socked in Sunday just like my trip three weeks ago.
I felt OK as the cloud line let up just South of home, so my alternate was VFR just 20 miles South.

Thank You So Much for flying over. Traci and I had a great time talking to everyone & I think everyone enjoyed Matt's food. He is a great cook.

We were worried the winds would turn many away but it turned out much better than we thought. This does look to be Matt's last one for the year.

Many asked Traci and I about whether we are going to put the Fish Fry on again next year. Traci and I agreed we need to do it. We just have so much trouble finding fish. We will make it work one way or another.

Your RV6 looked awesome as well. You take care of that new knee buddy and see again sometime.

Thanks to all that came. It was a success!!

Though technically not the weekend, I took the Mrs. on a lunch date yesterday morning to Blairsville, GA. It's a nice little town in the north Georgia mountains. We flew over the top of Hartsfield and downtown Atlanta at 4500' through the Bravo for some great views. The sky was clear and smooth.

When we arrived, there was a very nice, new, blue and white RV-7 also from the Atlanta area parked there. He had just returned with the crew car. We had a good lunch at a typical southern diner/meat and three called The Sawmill Place. The place was quite full for a Monday. Then we walked around for the historic square for a bit. Our time with the crew car was almost up and by the time we returned there already someone waiting for the keys. Popular place!

A Vietnam Veteran, I chose to honor my fellow Veterans with an aerial display of acro and smoke at 14500+ in view of America's mountain, Pikes Peak. Far enough away yet close enough for the smoke to draw attention to my salute for all the Veterans that are still alive no matter which conflict we were involved in.

Harter's chili Fest Fly-In

This was a week ago, but it took a while to put the video together. Nothing like a bunch of airplanes of all flavors, a huge cast iron pot over an outside fire, full of chili, and many other pitch in goodies. There were 4 or 5 RV's there too and the oldest plane was a 1936 Piper of some kind:). This is an annual event and it's always a blast. My hanger mate was on his third, and fourth flight in his newly signed off Carbon Cub! I'm getting a little better on using the 360 camera, but I plan on doing better:). Excuse the rain drops in some scenes. We actually flew through a little rain shower on the way in:) Enjoy !!!

Hey Vlad,

I'm curious to hear your impressions of your new engine compared to your old high time one. Same size as you had? Does it feel much more powerful?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

The new motor is a carbon copy of the old one the same model. Starts a split second faster. Feels a bit more powerful without wheel fairings couldn't tell the difference with them installed. Idle hot oil pressure is lower than the old one maybe it's time to change the gage and sender. Or switch to a thicker oil grade.

Very happy with it. Looking forward to flying farther and longer like back in the old days... missing it...
