Popped up to Oregon to check on a friend’s Phase 1 progress. Decent skies up to just north of Crater Lake - then a couple of fires made the Willamette Valley like flying through an ashtray….. smooth but Smokey - and on the way back, as soon as I cleared the smoke it was moderate turbulence and 25 knot headwinds from Klamath Falls all the way home. Good to have five-point Crow’s!
Last weekend I flew up to Roche Harbor / San Juan Island to visit with my brother and sister and their spouses. It took my sister and her husband 3 days to drive from the Bay Area. I started from NorCal at the same time they left Seattle on the third day and met them at the airport just as they arrived after getting off the ferry from Anacortes. It helped that I had tail winds the whole way with ground speeds above 200 kts for a significant portion of the trip. Smoke and haze from fires in Oregon and Washington obscured the views on both the trip there and the return. I didn't get to see much of Oregon and the Olympic Range in Washington was barely visible on the way back.
San Juan Island is an amazing area for kayaking and hiking. The Roche Harbor Airport runway has a high point in the middle. Radio calls are mandatory because you cannot see the opposite end of the runway on takeoff!
Late to the party here. I didn’t do anything too specific on the -8 build. That said I moved one of my favorite toys to the hangar to assist with the build.
