Hope a few of you got out to SnF and are having a great time. Starting the weekend a little damp (and boomy and sparky) around N.TX and areas north. Lots of staying inside <g>.

Taking the opportunity to adjust some avionics settings and address a door seal.
No flying today in TUL! Raining, 1900 OVC, and gusting to 35!

It was pretty windy and gusty, but I finally got my Insta360 camera mounted on the left wing and took it up for a test flight. No parts were shed, so I consider it a success. As for my editing skillz.... well, they appear to be nonexistent. :)

Looks like it takes nice video but it looks like a plane on a stick being held in front of a video.

Interesting results.

Compared to the GoPro MAX I'm using it seems the footage is clearer, however there's more distortion on the fringes of the screen. I'd be very interested to see the results if you zoom in a little bit. Certainly the GoPro MAX loses quality quite quickly when you zoom in.

Your mount is flexing quite a bit but the image stabilisation seems to work well. Either that or your camera is rock steady and your wing is flexing heaps. :D

Good effort. I look forward to seeing some more footage from around your region.

Yes, there's a way to turn off the auto horizon feature, but I haven't gotten through all the features quite yet. There are a surprising number of them.

Thanks. There's a way to remove the distortion -- a button that does just that. But sometimes it's not available in the Studio editing software, and I'm not sure why. They offer a number of different ways to edit, including on a smartphone or even on the camera itself, which is nice. There's even an AI option to allow the software to pick and edit the best shots. I'll have to see what works best for me. The raw video is nearly an hour long, but I figured watching the plane fly around for that long would be awfully tedious.

I'd be interested in combining the footage with data from FlySto. That looks neat, but I think I'd have to do it with a different device, something on the longitudinal axis:

Thank you for the video! I am working on my tailwheel endorsement and have been trying to explain the whole rudder thing to my non-pilot friends. The film of the rudder during landing does it perfectly!!!!

That video approach was flown waaaaay too fast.

EDIT.....the Flysto.net link above isn't Ron's airplane.

Printed a PETG holder for my hand held. Latched to the holder with the belt clip. Also put a thin stainless plate under the rudder pedals. Just need some decent flying weather now.

Tuesday passed my ATP written after completing the CTP course last week -- the 737 MAX full motion sim was impressive!

Plans for Sun'n'Fun were scrapped Wednesday due to the weather across the middle of the country -- but everything lined up to take the RV out to Las Vegas Sat/Sun to attend a tradeshow for the day job. With a fuel stop in Rapid City SD (proud sellers of the "I flew thru KRAP to get here" merch), spent Saturday night in Grand Junction CO.

Sunday I pulled the speed and fuel burn way back, and flew a low-and-slow serpentine route from Grand Junction to Sedona AZ for lunch, with plenty of sightseeing along the way over Canyonlands, Glen Canyon, and Monument Valley. I will admit to some jealousy toward those who have these places easily accessible their backyards! Filed IFR into Henderson for ease; the next couple days will be watching weather and planning an extended sightseeing route back home to MN in the back half of the week.
