Halter Ranch (89CA)
Wifey and I flew down to pick up our batch of good Paso Robles area wines and have lunch overlooking the vineyards and landing strip. And, the weather was stunning. Nice and green and crispy out. At ~3,200’ x 25’ wide, this private (easy prior permission) runway is perfect for our RV’s. Plus, Halter Ranch has a superb variety of places to stay, depending upon your group size. I recommend the “Hunters Cabin,” a superb very-plush house, with pool, hot tub, overlooking the vineyards and olive trees, and the Santa Maria grill pit = perfect for those tri-tips! Picture is of base leg to land on runway 4, approach over the tasting room (landing uphill). Takeoff is runway 22, downhill over the tasting room.

Flew to Saratoga KSAA for hot springs. And, the weather was stunning, but only for a couple of early morning hours here in WY southwest :) Elk, still in winter coats, are cooling themselves on a snow patch. Still plenty of the white stuff at 8K elevations.

Municipal hot springs are within 15 min hike from the airport. Pools were busy on this Saturday morning. The hottest "lobster" pool was 118F. 20 minutes was enough for me.

High winds came shortly and it's still howling. Perfect time for oil change (60 hours in 27 days) and fiberglass patching. One can't just show up in California pantless... ;)

I second the Halter Ranch thing. Amazing place and fun to fly into. It has an interestingly steep approach at the beginning where you fly below the level of the tasting room/restaurant up on the hill and then dive down to the runway.

Inventoried everything. Going on three days. Did you know that there are a lot of parts and baggies between an Emp and Fuse kit?

Needed the slip roller to make make some panels to cover all the redneck engineering holes on the back corner of my $100 boat, man I’ld like to have a real shear and brake……
Also grabbed the data cards to update stuff and help a couple C170 guys with a hangar and crew car with the crummy wx.

Flew to KXLL, Allentown PA, from New Kent International Aerodrome. Current IFR routing practices send me up the west side of the Chesapeake Bay (previously I headed east to Wilmington). Got a photo of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, the one that was smacked by the freighter with considerable damage and loss of life. Damaged portion is straight ahead of the wingtip in this somewhat bad photo.
