Sunday. Lots of blue stuff and no white fluffy stuff. Better make good use of it.
First up was a nice smooth 40 minute hop to Glentanner where the views are simply stunning, with a plan to grab a brew and a bite. The views were indeed lovely however, sadly, the cafe is now under new management and the food on offer was pretty average. Nothing fresh, nothing homemade, only boxed sandwiches and cardboard slices. I can get better than that rubbish from a petrol station. What a shame, it used to be THE spot to fly into. Damn.
After weighing up the options we decided to pop over to Fox Glacier. The direct route is only about 25 miles however there are some hills in the way... and that required a zoom climb to 9,000' with the resulting problem of having to descend immediately to sea level as soon as you get to altitude. It took longer to get down than it did to get up but after 25 minutes we were landing at the one-way-in runway at Fox Village. Fortunately the pizza was good, justifying the journey over The Rock (Mount Cook).
After a very relaxing lunch break we walked off the pizza for a bit before departing Fox and touring via the West Coast, Haast, Makarora and home to Cromwell. Total for the day - 2.1 hours. Easy. And such beautiful countryside.
