Hope you're having a great one.

Way back on 20 April 1983 Commandant MA du Toit did my PPL test. I should explain a bit more. As I was employed by a semi military company, the one big privilege was that I could do my training on Swartkop Air force base at what was called Defence Flying Club. It was also very close to home and work. Somehow I have passed the test with the first try, although it felt as if my brains has shrunken by 50% when he got into the C150 with me.

A year or two later I did my aerobatic training with him in a C150 Aerobat. Somewhere in the 90’s I did my instrument training with him mostly in an old M20 that we used to own. In between he did about all my ratings on whatever was needed.

As the years went by we became good friends and he became Oom (uncle) Mieg for me. Lots of flying trips and hunting trip together and somehow the passing of his amazing knowledge and skills never stopped.

As a CFI of a flying school and through me, he got involved in the RV community and did numerous ratings for new RV owners.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to take hom on a flight in my RV7A again. Before this flight the last flight I took him on was 2018 or there about in my RV10.

As we lined up I gave him the controls and it felt like many years ago. I just sat back and admired his skills. What an amazing man and what a privilege to call him a friend. He will by 90 in June this year. I salute you Oom Mieg.

A very low pressure system settled between Great Divide Basin and Wind River Range in WY this past Saturday. I spent over two hours enjoying beautiful cloud formations. Moderate to light turbulence temperature below freezing with a good dewpoint spread. Elevations around 7K in the basin the clouds look scary but they are not of a cumulus variety.

I've got a bit of OCD and am thus over preparing for a big trip to WI this July.
"The Claw" arrived and is now packed in the plane.
I'd not yet put the Bruce's cover or the assortment of plugs on the plane so I put all of those on.
My Antisplat Aero Gust Lock has long seemed to not do the job despite my watching all the videos it seemed to not do diddly. I failed to pay attention the one time I picked it up and someone else had it installed. It turns out the silver collar on the control stick was an integral part of this product. I'd ordered a new gust lock from Antisplat thinking that I had the wrong product (lots of RV9 stuff came in my 10) and the directions made it clear. The long wordy video with a mock up of rudder pedals and stick DO NOT have that metal part demonstrated. So now I have dual functional gust locks-they work very well.

If my tent and camp chair come soon I might see about a night in FL in early April.

Brought along a friend for his first RV flight.
Late afternoon Quebec City 30 minute tour.
We both had the "grin" during and after

Flew MEM-ILM-MEM to visit wife’s family. WX didn’t clear as forecasted Friday afternoon so we got to fly the RNAV 17 to ILM. We even got an extra night while waiting for storms to pass over. IFR departure Monday AM for return flight. Another great trip in the RV.
