3 more hours on the Hobbs. Half way done with the EAA test cards!

George - I’m guessing that inspectional panel on the side of your plane is in the plans. Is that just for visual inspection of the elevator bell crank (and other stuff) ? Never noticed that before…

That panel is not in the plans. I added it to have access to the ELT, ADSB, XPNDR and ap servo without having to fully remove the interior and baggage bulkhead

Technically not the weekend. Gusting from every direction to 45 knots today. Wednesday. The 4 th Grandchild sporting the RV grin. Youngest to date. Met all the requirements, at least 3 yrs old , out of diapers , and able to communicate in a reasonable manner.
Dollar ride at 3 yrs one month. Congrats Natalie !

We did a small formation clinic in Conroe, Texas this weekend; not FFI or NATA, but a CAF Traron clinic. The warbird turnout was pretty thin since a couple of the local AT-6s are down for maintenance, but we still had 2 AT-6s, a BT-13(slow!), T-34, Twin Beech, 2 RV-8s and a Socata Epsilon. I earned my Wing card in a T-6 around 12 years ago… never have gotten around to doing my lead card yet. One of these days though, I’m gonna! But, this was good practice for keeping current and was a ton of fun.

My 17-year old son Josh took his private checkride in the -10 yesterday. Winds were sporty but within his capability. DPE said he did a great job. Coincidentally it was 12 years ago this week that I rolled the project out of the shop and loaded it onto a truck for the ride to the airport and final assembly. A five year old Joshua provided supervision, shown below. In the past 12 years we’ve flown 4JC across the country several dozen times, accumulating 1400 hours and counting. It has been fun watching my sons move from the back to front right, and then front left. 4JC has served us well as a trainer too and has been through three checkrides so far, and Josh’s brother Caleb should be taking another ride here soon. Building an airplane that is used for cross country adventures with the family is gratifying, but then teaching your kids to fly in it is another level of satisfaction.

Flying Highway One is as enjoyable as driving it! Coastline down to San Luis Obispo, including a long overwater section across Monterey Bay. Practice ILS into Santa Maria to see if the marker beacon receiver in my airplane works (it does, and I haven’t heard one of those since flight school!). Flew past Hearst Castle and Morro Bay on the way down. Some light aerobatics (rolls, loops, Cuban Eights), and then home via the Diablo Mountains. Bumpy ride home.
