Yesterday and today, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where eight W-15040 "Cover Plates" had disappeared to. I finally looked at my original inventory list for the Wings, and the later inventory list released in early January...I think. Sure enough, the original inventory called for 16 of these cover plates and I inventoried 16. These are the ones that cover various hatches in the lower leading edge and main wing skins. The original inventory did NOT call out the eight cover plates needed for the fuel tank closeouts so I didn't know that they were missing until yesterday. The later inventory list shows these extra eight cover plates on page 5 so I'm guessing that this wasn't a problem for kits sent later. Another builder who picked up before me and is building his own tanks says that he thinks he has the cover plates, so it is easy to imagine that 24 cover plates will be there for those building their own tanks but initially missing for quick build tank kits. Bottomline, the wing kits should have 24 of these cover plates. I'm guessing that only a very few of us were short-changed.
I've sent a note to Van's this afternoon and I'm sure they will send the missing cover plates soon. Once I receive them, I'll soon after have everything completed in the wing and tail kits.
