Voltage Sensor wire for B&C Regulator?

I'm installing my B&C L40 Alternator, and LR3D-14 Regulator in my RV8.

I've got a shunt right on the firewall between the alternator output and the buss. Rather than run the terminal #3 voltage sensor wire all the way to the buss, can't I just jump off the buss side of the shunt? It would be much easier than running another wire to the buss.

Battery voltage vs bus, I prefer to monitor actual bus voltage, not much difference really.
 
One thing to keep in mind is that the B and C regulator needs to see a minimum voltage (11.7??) on the sense terminal or it will activate the fault light.

The fault light only means low voltage-------it does not necessarily mean the regulator or alternator is kaput.

Just be aware of things that will suck out voltage in the sense circuit.

Since B&D recommends a fuse or CB in that line, you’re going to run wires thru the firewall anyway - or have a fuse/CB that cannot be reset in flight.
 
RV8 here as well. I ran the #3 wire to my fuse block. 22ga wire 2A fuse only about a 1.5 feet of wire. 230 hours trouble free!

Ideally, you should run that sense wire back to your battery. The voltage regulator needs to know what the voltage at the battery is for optimum charging. That will aid in keeping your battery fully charged without being overcharged.
