VA261 Fuel Strainer not threading on too VA141

Getting ready to do tanks.... It almost appears that my VA-261 fuel strainer or the aluminum recep were not threaded correctly. I can get them to start and that is about it. One appears coarse and the other appears fine. Yes I have tried lube. Anyone else have this issue? I tried it with other AN8 fittings....Is it possible Van's threaded the VA-141 incorrectly?? Anyone else have this issue?

Ran into that yesterday. I chased the flange with a tapered pipe tap. My buddy held a compressed air nozzle close to the tank filler hole to slightly pressurize the tank so shavings would exit out thru the tap cutting teeth
 
Looks like it was done as a tapered thread specifically to create a tighter seal. I'll try a light touch with a tap prior to assembly. Didn't want to force it. Thx.
