IN A JET!!!!
"We're not worthy, we're not worthy......................."
Wayne and Garth
Think they took into consideration zero G and NEGETIVE airspeed and airflow through those jet engines when designing them????
Wonder if it took much to keep'em from flaming out when sliding backwards?
Dixie said it wasn't part of the routine but it goes to show you, even the best can make a mistake.
To hear him tell the tale is funny. He said all was good, they were going straight up, Hoover looking out at each wing and then next thing he knew he was hanging from his belt (I don't recall if he had a harness on or not). He said they hung there for a second or two, the jet wobbled up and down (fore and aft?) with Hoover holding on to all the controls, feet pressing against the rudder pedals, and the thing just flopped on its back and they were pointing downhill again. I don't recall Dixie telling me if Hoover went to idle or full power once it was obvious they were not going to make it over the top but I do remember him telling me what Hoover said, "Let's try not to do that again.", and then they finished the routine as if nothing happened.
Here?s another Dixie story on Hoover that talks about what kind of guy he is.
Dixie never misses a meal, if you know what I mean. He and a friend were at an air show in NJ or NY and they got hungry but didn?t want to eat the normal air show junk food. As they were walking by the VIP tent and obviously salivating over the food being served a lady walked out and handed Dixie?s friend her VIP badge. The friend walked in to the VIP tent, past security and then met Dixie at the port-a-johns where he handed him the pass.
Dixie was in grazing at the food table while wearing the lady?s badge at the same time Hoover was getting some food. Hoover noticed the lady?s name on Dixie?s badge and made some comment about it, whereupon Dixie confessed how he got the badge and that he was just there for the food. Hoover laughed it off, told him he liked his ?initiative?, and told him that he could join his crew if he could sneak into his upcoming show in Pennsylvania.
For the Pennsylvania show Dixie had some ?Bob Hoover Air Show? magnetic signs made for his Bronco. When they got stuck in traffic, the cops pulled them out of line and escorted them to ramp where Dixie parked right next to Hoovers P-51. When they caught up, Hoover did remember Dixie and the conversation. At some point Hoover asked where he had parked and it was then Dixie pointed towards Hoover?s P-51 and his Bronco. Hoover was duly impressed and Dixie became Hoover?s friend and photographer.
In retirement Dixie sells
