David Paule -3B Update
I started mocking up the hoses. With the guidelines on Aircraft Specialty Flightlines and a thread here a while back on VAF, it was reasonably straight-forward. The big ones, -8, are for the remote oil filter and the oil cooler. There are a couple sensor hoses and the fuel lines still to go.

RE: Placed Timing Mark on back of prop.
…DanH
I dug around and came up with an old, cheap timing light. So I gutted it and attached the internal board (with strobe tube) out by the timing pointer, then extended the trigger circuit back to the cockpit with some scrap wire and an old push-to-talk switch. Works great. I can now close and latch the canopy, hold the stick aft with my right hand, and trigger the strobe while operating the throttle. Trashy (yeah, that's duct tape), but it works great.

RE: Lower Cowl doesn't match plans with newer nose strut
…John Stoll
I think the issue is the drawing depicts a cowl for a carburated engine and not the fuel injected cowl. I have the a RV-9A with the new gear and a carburated engine/cowl and the bottom of the cowl is horizontal like the plans and the bolt hole has plenty of clearance, just like the plans I don't think you are crazy or did anything wrong, the drawing isn't clear on cowling style. I don’t have the plates installed at the moment, but the LE of the nose-strut pant ends inside the cowl, so I will not be making a fairing. I have heard people say the fairing for the old style strut would crack due to movement of the nose strut. If you feel the need to cover the gap, I would add the fairing to the LE of the nose strut pant and not the cowl. This doesn’t solve the bolt issue but hopefully makes it sense why the plans seem wrong.
