Rest in Peace Mr. Pete Hunt (PCHunt)
Followup: Can six people lift an RV-14 fuselage onto a table?
After giving this way too much thought I decided to lift the fuselage today. Six of us EASILY lifted it onto workbenches this morning. Much easier and lighter than I expected! To gain easier access to the interior I plan to move additional workbenches next to the fuselage on either side. They are the same height so it will effectively be like working on the fuselage from the ground. All of my workbenches are on retractable wheels so it's easy to roll things around or lock them in place. This thing actually is starting to look like an airplane now. Looks much bigger up off the ground.
Next up - landing gear! I've asked fellow VAF member and RV guru Scott McDaniels to come inspect my work again and once that's done I plan to close out the wings then mount them.

RV-10 RE Insulation Question - RV-10 Quick Build …bimmer1980
Thanks to the insight of you all on this thread (and a few others) I've made progress on my titanium belly heat shield for the -10. I'm planning on a 1/8 fiberfrax. Hence I used a perimeter 063" strip of 2024 aluminum under the edge of the titanium.

'Kurled' compression ring
What would cause the 'knurling' on this center ring of the #1Millennium Cylinder? About 100 hours on the professionally rebuilt Lycoming E2A 160 hp and always run LOP with mo gas. Synthetic oil changes prior 40 hours. Blackstone reports fine. Borescopes decent with slight scoring. RV4 so cool...

Rest in Peace Mr. Pete Hunt (PCHunt)
Pete Hunt - AKA PCHunt
I received a message from the family today of Pete's passing on April 11th. Last I recall, Pete was based out of Ramona, CA and New Zealand and often a contributor to this site. I recall he had an RV-6, RV-6A and a T6 Texan. I have fond memories of Pete looking over my build in its final...

Can six people lift an RV-14 fuselage onto a table?
I'm ready to install the landing gear on my RV-14A but it's sitting on the ground. I want to lift it onto a 35" tall table that is 24"x96". I spent quite a bit of time searching here to see what other people have done to lift their fuselage. Some used motorcycle lifts. Some used jack stands and...

Cracked Airbox Plate
I assume all pilots and owners know the updraft airbox top plate must be checked for cracking on a regular basis. That said, here's an interesting observation from the underside of a plate. Note the origin of the cracks. They didn't start at the 0.250" holes. They all started at the...

Garmin SmartCharts Now Available (5/28/2025)
Good Morning VAF! Terminal procedure chart formatting has not changed much since their inception in the early 20th century. These traditional charts have to account for all runways, transitions, approach minimums, etc. which can make charts congested and hard to quickly analyze. The Garmin Team...

Flaperon Leading Edge Skins
Did anyone use an edge rolling tool on the A-1201 leading edge skins where they overlap the top of the A-1202 skins? The photo shows the top of the flaperon with the A-1201C leading edge skin Clecoed into place, but I did not use an edge rolling tool. Think it will lie flat when it is riveted...

CherryMax fully set?
I need a ruling, when I first set these I was relatively happy with what I saw, and now they are keeping me up at night. Tracking the CherryMax doc with min/max levels of flush, these are barely “unflush”…how are we feeling? I did the Vans lubrication technique.

Insulation Question - RV-10 Quick Build
I?m going to install some Soundex installation and now is the time. No problem insulating the aft side of the firewall as I?ve removed the foreskin to provide access to the panel and electrical wiring. The firewall is accessible. No problem also with the forward fuselage sides. However...
