RE: Abnormal Stability in RV-6?
…skyboltr
Today I removed the washers from the upper lord mounts and here are a few before and after pictures. The washers were adding just under 1/4" (.240) of nose down cant to the thrust line. Now the spinner is more correctly aligned with the cowling. I couldn't test fly today as the winds were rather gusty 90 degrees to the runway. I am quite confident that this was the issue all along but will post the resulting change in the flight characteristics as soon as possible.

…FAB update
The FAB manual gives a procedure for extending the inlet snout on the cowl. It involves shaping some provided foam and glassing it, followed by some other steps, including more glassing. The shaping went okay but when I tried to glass it, the glass would not adhere to the inside of the foam on top. It made a sticky mess, sticking to my gloves, sticks or anything else I tried to get in there, sticking to everything except for the upper inside of the foam. I removed that glass.
Reset.
I bought some balloons and with them in hand, used reinforced packing tape to wrap around the exterior of the foam, so that the balloon would not burst it.

RE: Wing Tip Attach - Pop Rivets, Screw Nut Plates or Piano Hinge.... Thoughts
…Carl F.
I fill in the fiberglass tip trailing edge rib (along with all control surfaces) so piano hinge do not work. #6 SS screws but I add #6 tinnerman on the screws to protect the wing paint.
Made my own wingtip VOR/LOC/GS antenna - it is attached to a piece of 0.032” angle on the outboard wing rib. That way the antenna stays on when the tip come off.

Seat Rib Questions
Hi, I'm slowly plodding along on finishing one of those '90%' complete RV-6A builds. Tonight I was looking at doing some work measuring up brackets to add a 5 point seatbelt harness, but I started looking at the seat ribs themselves and started to question everything. At first I noticed that...

How frequently do crowbar over voltage devices fail?
I built my RV6 in the early 90's and used the Bob Nuckolls crowbar over voltage module. I was looking through the documentation today and noticed: "The OV module should be tested every year for proper operation. Suggest removal at every annual inspection time for bench testing as described in...

Abnormal Stability in RV-6?
I have several 100's of hours in various RV's, 4,6,7, +8's. I've also done a fair amount of transition trying for new buyers and have just recently started working with a new owner of an RV-6 (tailwheel version 0-320 fixed pitch tip up canopy). I ferried it back for the new owner and it flew as...

Vinyl (I assume) Number Removal
Smart guys. I am trying to remove my existing numbers. I tried a heat gun on low and from several inches away. The first piece I could pull, took the white paint off and down to the metal. I also tried some Goo Gone without success. Any thoughts on what else to try? Thanks in advance.

Rear empennage nutplates
On page 10-20, the aft-most k1000-06 nut plate gets dimpled, but the screw hole didn’t get dimpled. I read through the instructions, but couldn’t understand what happens? For the flush mounted inspection cover, the top 2 nut plates are k1000-06 that get countersunk? The other 6 are...

Wing Tip Attach - Pop Rivets, Screw Nut Plates or Piano Hinge.... Thoughts
I love the smooth look of the piano hinge and leaning to that. Light, efficient. I think there is enough documentation out there to do this Mod. Pop rivets also light, simple but will have to drill them to take wing tip off. My other RV I flew for a decade never removed wing tip. May be a bad...

Shawn's -4 re-build
An issue came up that I have not seen a lot posted about. It is mentioned at the end of this thread in post #11 but not resolved. I am having the same issue. Any else have to deal with this? I feel like the tube is too close to the mount, and engine vibrations could cause issues. The tube is all...
