I once heard a story that American and British war pilots would trade the liquor if their respective homelands - whiskey for the Americans and gin to the Britts. I don't know if the stories are true but I choose to think it is a good tale.
Every August, I travel from Virginia to New England. I travel up with savory treats from the south and bring back some of the best of "Old" England.
