Terminal Shield Sleeve

Are you talking about the ready made shield drains that you can buy? Or making your own? What's the concern?

aka Solder Sleeves? I never had good luck with them -- I had issues getting the solder rings to flow. This was because I was using the wrong heat gun & reflector nozzle.

Once I switched over to a dewalt heat gun that had the actual temperature settings it made all of the difference. Once you see the solder flow and recognize it, you will be able to look at previously installed sleeves and know which ones need a little reheating.

Cordless or wired?

I use a Dewalt 110v. It takes more heat than you might think to get the solder to flow. Once you see one flow like a liquid, it all makes sense.

The solder sleeve melt temperature seems to vary by manufacturer. The ones I bought from Steinair melted and flowed at a much lower temperature than the ones I purchased from Amazon. I ended up custom bending a nozzle attachment that came with my heat gun to concentrate the heat to get the solder to melt and flow on those units. They were 1/4 the price of Steinair's though. Reminds me of the old saying, "penny wise, dollar foolish".

I had trouble until I got a variable setting heat gun as well (Harbor Freight - works great). I initially ordered from Stein, but then read an article in Kitplanes and grabbed some from Amazon from one of the brands they tested. I'd say the sleeves on the Haisstronica kit I got maybe aren't quite as good as what I got from Stein, but seem to be plenty adequate for what they do. I've also grabbed some crimped connectors with heat shrink on them that I like as well.
