Strut attach fitting conflict

I'm New Here
Hey everyone I am new here and have much appreciated all the help these posts have been! Has anyone dealt with the lower tab that gets in the way of the strut attach fitting? I believe that it needs to be removed and it would be easiest to remove it prior to the main spar attachment. If there is something I am missing here could someone please point it out? Thanks!IMG_5950.jpeg

I believe you have the wrong rib there, where the correct rib does not have the tab.

There was at least one other builder who received a rib labeled as the correct part, but it had the tab. From the photos he posted that rib did not match any other rib in the kit.

@RVbySDI Did you get guidance from Van's on removing the tab?

I have not yet talked to vans about removing it. This rib, W-15011E-001 appears to be the same as the rib with the same part number in section 25 for the inboard mixer box. The picture in the plans does not show this tab. This is ser number 36 so maybe it was an issue with an early kit. Thanks!

Just checked mine (kit # 39). Mine is the same as you described. Will be very interested to hear what Vans advises. Thanks.

Yes. Their reply was to “modify the rib as needed in that location”.

Hi Steve,

The meeting:

  • Originally, a specialized rib was potentially planned.
  • Recommendation was to modify the rib for your needs at this location.
  • They asked if you had used the QR code to submit feedback for potential improvements? This would go directly to the team, bypassing Tech Support, Parts Order Desk, and Kits Sales.

Best regards,
Kevin

Has someone made a Wiki entry about this at the point that rib is installed, if that is prudent?

I had the same issue with the left wing. Modified as needed for clearance:

Lots of tape was added to protect the main rib from accidental grinding. (not shown)

Final mod, with primer:

The right wing is fine. I also checked to see if possibly the ribs were swapped. (they were not)

I just noticed this yesterday. I received my main spars and started on the wing structure, attaching ribs to the aft spar. I found two ribs like this that were incorrectly marked, and after studying the drawings I decided that the only difference was that tab, easily removed. I must say it’s been difficult stifling my irritation with the number of wrong parts I’ve received. I did a thorough inventory when I received the kit, and that has historically been sufficient, but the quality control has been dismal. I’ve lost count of the number of parts I have that are mislabeled - something that’s hard to catch until you need that specific part - and I’m certain Evan in parts orders is tired of hearing from me. I sincerely hope they get it together soon.

Mine is wrong too, assume most are. So vans has no plan to exchange these? It looks like the inboard mixing box rib is made wrong too.
